FAMILY REUNION COOKIES
This recipe was served at the McLeod Family Reunion in Florida, circa 1997. They said they'd been making them for years and no one knew where the recipe originally came from. Easy to do and just delicious!

FAMILY REUNION PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES
I can't remember where I got this recipe, perhaps one of my large quanities cookbook, or maybe even Tast of Home, but I have made it quite a few times for large events. They really are very tasty. Steps:
- 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a very large mixing bowl, cream the shortening, peanut Butter, & both sugars together until light & fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time beating well after each addition. Mix vanilla & milk together and pour into creamed mixture.
- 2. In another bowl add the flour soda, & salt & mix together. Then gradually add the flour to the creamed mixture until all has been incoperated together. Drop by heaping tablespoonfuls, at least 2 inches apart, onto an ungreased baking sheet.
- 3. Flatten with a fork. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes for firmer cookie. If you prefer as I do a more chewier soft batch cookie, then bake for 8 minutes. Let rest a couple of minutes & Then remove to wire rack to cool completely. Makes about 18 dozen cookies. Can cut recipe in half if you like.
- 4. NOTE MY PERSONAL PREFERENCE: I prefer to rub hands with a small amout of butter or margarine & roll dough into balls, dip fork into granulated sugar, and make a crisscross pattern in cookies and bake. Cookies do expand as they bake.Recipe is one of many in my cookbook of 795 recipes.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Whisk together the dry ingredients in a medium bowl. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, peanut butter, and brown sugars. Stir in the egg and vanilla. Add the flour in thirds and stir until smooth. Fold in the peanut butter chips. Roll the mixture into golf ball-sized balls (about 1 1/2 tablespoons). At this point you can roll them in granulated sugar or you can press each cookie down with the tines of a fork. Either way, bake for 10 minutes, in a nonstick baking pan, rotating the pan halfway through baking time. Cool the cookies on a rack before serving.

- Melt butter in a large pot set over medium-high heat. Stir in sugar and milk and bring to a rolling boil. Set timer and continue stirring as mixture boils for exactly 1 1/2 minutes.
- Remove pot from heat. Stir in peanut butter, vanilla, salt, and oats until mixture is well combined. Add chilled chocolate chunks and stir just a few times so that chocolate is incorporated and starts to streak, but it should not melt completely.
- Drop oatmeal mixture by tablespoonfuls into little mounds onto prepared cookie sheets. You may leave them rounded or use the back of a spoon to slightly flatten them. Allow cookies to set and cool. Store in an air-tight container at room temperature (for up to a few days) or in the refrigerator (if you prefer them firm and chilled).

- Wet a fork with water and dip in granulated sugar. Press fork into each cookie dough ball twice, in a criss cross pattern.
- Bake 7-9 minutes. Let cool on the baking sheet for an additional 5 minutes after removing them from the oven. Transfer to a cooling rack.
