ELLEN'S YUMMY NO-SALT POPCORN image

When my doctor told me to cut down on salt I was afraid I would never eat popcorn again. But I soon came up with this very tasty solution. I love it! My special seasoning packet goes to the movies with me! Photo: posedperfection.com 09-22-15

3 c popcorn, popped
unsalted butter to taste
1 Tbsp mrs. dash garlic and herb flavored seasoning, or any other flavor you like
2 tsp low sodium parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • 1. If possible use a hot-air popcorn popper to avoid using oil. Place popped corn in a large bowl.
  • 2. In a resealable plastic bag, combine Mrs. Dash and the Parmesan cheese. Close the bag and shake vigorously until the two ingredients are thoroughly combined.
  • 3. Drizzle butter over popcorn if so desired; then sprinkle seasoning mixture over popcorn, shaking the bowl occasionally to evenly distribute seasoning.
  • 4. Enjoy this new taste treat. You won't even miss the salt!

I have a glass-topped magnetic-induction cooktop, so I needed a method for making popcorn that does not involve shaking the pot. I have cobbled together ideas that I have come across to spare my cooktop. Ingredients listed are from Orville Redenbacher's Original Gourmet Popping Corn as this is just to show a method. Number Of Ingredients 2

1/3 cup corn
2 tablespoons oil

Steps:

  • Place corn and oil in a 3 quart saucepan. I use paper towel, wide enough to cover the pan and a splatter screen over the paper towel to cover my pot. This lets the steam escape and controls splattering from the oil.
  • Heat oil and one or two kernels.
  • When kernels pop, add remaining corn, remove from heat and count to thirty. I count one one thousand, two one thousand, etc.
  • Place pan back on hob.
  • When popping slows to almost nothing, it's ready.
  • Pax.
