This is baked stuffed french toast casserole a great breakfast dish to make ahead for holidays or Sunday brunch. I run a bed and breakfast and tea room cafe, and this recipe is often requested by customers. -Kay Clark, Lawrenceburg, Kentucky

Number Of Ingredients 16

1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter, cubed
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
1 cup chopped pecans
12 slices Italian bread (1/2 inch thick)
2 large tart apples, peeled and thinly sliced
6 large eggs
1-1/2 cups milk
1-1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
CARAMEL SAUCE:
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup butter, cubed
1 tablespoon light corn syrup

Steps:

  • In a small saucepan, combine the brown sugar, butter and corn syrup; cook and stir over medium heat until thickened. Pour into a greased 13x9-in. baking dish; top with half of the pecans, a single layer of bread and remaining pecans. Arrange apples and remaining bread over the top. , In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, cinnamon, vanilla, salt and nutmeg. Pour over bread. Cover and refrigerate overnight., Remove from the refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 35-40 minutes or until lightly browned., In a small saucepan, combine the sauce ingredients. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened. Serve with French toast.

This is a terrific stuffed french toast recipe. Great when you have overnight guests or for Sunday or Holiday Brunch. In a pinch, you could use canned apple pie filling instead of fresh apple. This is a great breakfast comfort food!

4 slices sourdough bread (large slices, cubed, no crust)
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, cubed
1 large granny smith apple, peeled & chopped
6 eggs
1 cup milk
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
2 -3 tablespoons sifted powdered sugar
maple syrup

Steps:

  • Preheat oven 375 dg.
  • Put 1/2 bread cubes in ungreased 11x7" dish. Cover with all of the cream cheese. Sprinkle with apple. Top with remaining bread. Beat eggs, milk, & cinnamon until blended. Pour over top & bake 35 minute
  • Dust with sugar & serve with maple syrup.

vegetable oil cooking spray
16 ounces French bread, cut into 20 slices
8 ounces fat free cream cheese, cut into 1/4 inch thick slices
3 cups liquid egg substitute
2 cups skim milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup fat-free maple syrup
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Steps:

  • Spray a 13 x 9 inch baking pan with vegetable spray.
  • Layer 10 slices of French bread in bottom of pan.
  • You can cut slices to fit.
  • Top evenly with cream cheese slices, then with remaining French bread slices.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together egg substitute, milk, vanilla extract, syrup, and cinnamon.
  • Pour over bread, coating all of the bread.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight or at least 8 hours.
  • Remove from refrigerator and let stand at room temperature for 15 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Bake for 1 hour or until all liquid is absorbed and the French bread is set in the center.
  • To keep bread from browning to much, lay a piece of aluminum foil over top when French bread just begins to brown.
  • Cut into 12 pieces and serve with raspberry syrup.

1 package (8 ounces) frozen fully cooked breakfast sausage patties
8 slices French bread (1-1/2 inches thick)
2 tablespoons butter, softened
1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
2 large eggs
1/2 cup whole milk
1-1/2 teaspoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Maple syrup, optional

Steps:

  • Heat sausage patties according to package directions; cut into bite-size pieces. Cut a pocket in the crust of each slice of bread. Butter the inside of pocket. In a small bowl, combine sausage and cheese. Stuff into pockets., In a shallow bowl, beat the eggs, milk, sugar and cinnamon; dip both sides of bread. 1 (8 ounce) container whipped cream cheese, at room temperature
1/3 cup chopped pecans
1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 3/4 teaspoons cinnamon, divided
2 cups milk
5 eggs
1/4 cup granulated sugar, plus
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 loaf challah (I use French bread) or 1 loaf egg bread, cut into 3/4 -thick slices (I use French bread)
confectioners' sugar (icing sugar)

Steps:

  • Combine cheese, pecans, brown sugar, syrup and 1/4 teaspoons cinnamon;reserve.
  • Whisk together milk, eggs, 1/4 cup sugar and vanilla.
  • Reserve 2 bread slices. Spread one side of each remaining bread slice with cheese mixture; layer at an angle in 13" by 9" well-greased baking dish, cheese-side up, ending with reserved plain bread slices.
  • Pour milk mixture evenly over slices.
  • Cover dish with plastic wrap; refrigerate overnight.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F Remove plastic wrap.
  • Combine remaining granulated sugar with cinnamon; sprinkle over slices.
  • Bake 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and egg mixture is set.
  • Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar just before serving.

I love breakfast for dinner and this is what I came up with tonight. It's super sweet, but every bite is wonderful.

4 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
4 eggs
3/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon cinnamon
8 slices bread
1/2 cup cream cheese
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 can apricots in syrup
1/4 cup brown sugar

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350 F.
  • Melt the butter in the bottom of a square cake pan, mix 1/2 c brown sugar into the butter, spread over bottom of the pan.
  • Beat eggs, milk and cinnamon together in a shallow dish.
  • Dip bread slices in the egg mixture, let the pieces soak up as much of the egg mix as you can.
  • I use Pepperidge Farm Brown Sugar Cinnamon French Toast, but you can use any bread you like.
  • Layer 4 slices on the bottom of the pan.
  • Mix the cream cheese and brown sugar together, spread a spoonful over each slice of bread, top with the remaining 4 slices of bread which have been dipped in the egg mixture.
  • Bake for 20 minutes, flip the stacks of French Toast over, bake for another 25 minutes.
  • For the syrup, pour the syrup fromt he apricots into a small saucepan, cut up the apricots into a small dice, add to the pan, add the remaining brown sugar.
  • Bring to a rolling boil and let it reduce to half.
  • Serve the warm syrup over the hot french toast.
