1/2 medium cabbage, sliced, chopped
2 medium potatoes, quartered
4 cups water
2 tablespoons bacon drippings
1 teaspoon salt
pepper

Steps:

  • Cut cabbage in 1 inch by 3 inch pieces. Peel potatoes and cut into quarters.
  • In a large saucepan bring water, bacon drippings, salt and pepper to a boil. Place cabbage and potatoes into water and simmer on low heat until cabbage and potatoes test done with the prick of a fork.
  • To serve use a slotted spoon to lift out cabbage and potatoes.

1 head cabbage, cored and coarsely chopped
1 pinch salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Bring the butter and chicken broth to a boil in a large skillet. Reduce heat to low and add the cabbage. Cover and cook over low heat to steam the cabbage for about 45 minutes, stirring frequently, or until cabbage is tender and sweet. Season with salt and pepper and serve.

500 grams Green cabbage
salt
2 onions
600 grams waxy potatoes
peppers (ground)
1 tsp Caraway
2 Tbsps freshly chopped parsley

Steps:

  • Rinse the cabbage, trim, free from the hard stalk and cut into strips. Blanch for 4-5 minutes in boiling salted water. Rinse under cold water and drain well.
  • Peel the onion and chop finely. Peel and rinse the potatoes and cut into thin slices. Heat the oil in a pan and fry the potatoes until golden brown (about 10 minutes) with occasional turning. Add the onions and cabbage strips to the pan and fry for another 3-4 minutes. Season with salt, pepper and caraway seeds and serve garnished with freshly chopped parsley.

1 head of cabbage
3 medium potatoes
1/4 c oil
1/4 c butter
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp salt
2 tsp pepper

Steps:

  • 1. Remove outside leaves from cabbage and discard. Rinse head of cabbage in cold water. Remove whole leaves from cabbage. Discard the core. Wash, peel, and slice potatoes.
  • 2. In a large skillet, over medium heat melt butter with the oil. Add potatoes and cabbage leaves. Cover. Cook on medium heat for 20 minutes, stir occasionally.
  • 3. Add spices, stir to coat. If it's dry add more oil. Cook additional 10 mins, or until veggies are tender.

I've been making fried cabbage and noodles for years but sometimes get tired of it. So I decided to put together two ingredients my mother used to make: cabbage and potatoes and fry them. Add some onion or variation thereof and you've got a yummy meal!

6 medium red potatoes
1 medium head green cabbage
4 Tbsp butter, plus more if needed
1 c chopped leek
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
4 slice bacon, cooked and crumbled (optional)

Steps:

  • 1. Wash cabbage and cut into eight wedges. Place in boiling water and simmer over low heat, covered, for about 20 to 25 minutes until almost tender. Drain well.
  • 2. Meanwhile, scrub potatoes, dry, and slice.
  • 3. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
  • 4. Add potatoes in a single layer. Stir in cabbage, breaking it up as you add it. Add chopped leeks, salt and pepper.
  • 5. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring frequently, for about 20 minutes or until all vegetables are tender and potatoes are browned. Add crumbled bacon if desired.

1 onion, chopped
1 small head cabbage, coarsely chopped
¼ cup water
3 large potatoes, scrubbed and sliced
1 dash seasoning salt
1 dash paprika
2 cups cubed cooked ham

Steps:

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, saute onions in the margarine. When tender add cabbage and stir. Pour water over, cover and simmer gently on medium low for ten minutes.
  • Add potatoes and mix. Cover again and allow to simmer for ten more minutes. Additional water may be needed. Sprinkle seasoning salt and paprika over cabbage and potatoes. Allow to simmer covered for an additional 5 to 10 minutes until cabbage is soft and potatoes are nearly cooked. Mix ham in and finish cooking until ham is hot and potatoes are done.

Whats more, the leftover beef can be shredded, mixed with grated potatoes and grated onions, fried and served over eggs for breakfast. If the corned beef you buy comes with corning herbs include them in the broth.

5 -6 lbs corned beef
4 large onions, outer skin removed, each cut into large wedges
10 carrots, peeled
2 celery ribs, cleaned
2 bay leaves
1 bunch parsley, cleaned
1/2 cup Dijon mustard
1 medium head of cabbage, cut into large wedges
12 -14 small new potatoes, scrubbed
kosher salt
pepper

Steps:

  • I a large heavy-bottomed stockpot, combine beef, 2 onions, 2 carrots, the celery, the bay leaves and the parsley.
  • Add enough cold water to cover the beef by 3 inches and bring to a boil; reduce heat to simmer and cover.
  • Cook for 3 to 3 1/2 hours, turning two to three times; cook until the beef is very tender, almost shredding when speared with a fork.
  • Remove the meat from the pot and strain the broth into a large bowl; discard the solids and return the meat and strained broth to the pot.
  • Add the mustard, remaining onions, carrots, cabbage and potatoes;Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer 50 to 60 minutes until vegetables are tender, add salt & pepper if needed.
  • Slice the beef into 1/4-inch-thick pieces; surround the meat with the vegetables, served whole.
  • The broth should be served on the side with a ladle; make sure to have deep plates with a lip so lots of broth can be poured over the meat and vegetables, or use shallow bowls.
  • Serve with a warm loaf of crusty country bread or soda bread.

  • In a large pot, add olive oil and sauté onion for about 4 minutes, until it starts to get translucent. Add garlic and sauté for another minute.
  • Add chopped cabbage and stir until combined with the onion and garlic. Place lid on your pot and continue cooking for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until cabbage is cooked down and tender.
