Steps:
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place the apple slices in a large bowl; set aside. In a small bowl, mix together the cornstarch, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Sprinkle the sugar mixture over the apples, tossing gently to coat.
- Spread the mixture evenly into a 1 1/2 quart baking dish. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, brown sugar, salt, and butter until the mixture is crumbly. Add the sliced almonds and mix well. Spoon the mixture over the apples, pressing down slightly as you go. Completely cover the apples with the topping mixture.
- Bake 45 minutes or until apples are tender. Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack to desired temperature for serving. Or after cooling, refrigerate until ready to eat and serve cold.

NANA'S APPLE CRUMBLE
A family favorite, this apple crumble was originally my grandmother Hazel's recipe which my mom made on a regular basis. She would make two at a time to take to sick or shut-in friends, or to potlucks. There is never any left. Serve warm with French vanilla yogurt.

Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Spread apples in an even layer in a deep dish pie plate or 8-inch square glass casserole dish. Cover with white sugar, then top with cinnamon.
- Combine flour and brown sugar for topping in a bowl. Add butter and cut in with a pastry blender. Spread topping evenly over apple mixture and pat down.
- Bake in the preheated oven until apple mixture is bubbling and topping is browned, about 55 minutes.

Steps:
- Heat oven to 375°F.
- Lightly grease a 13x9 glass pan.
- Cut fruit into slices (removing pit or seeds) and layer in bottom of pan.
- Mix dry ingredients in a medium sized bowl and then cut in butter with a pastry cutter (cut until crumbly).
- Sprinkle mixture over fruit.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes.
- Top should be browned.
- Serve with ice cream or whipped cream.
HOMEMADE APPLE CRISP OR APPLE CRUMBLE
This Apple Crisp, or Apple Crumble, is the best one that I have ever made. It has become a staple for every gathering that we hold. I hear about it if it is missing from the food line-up! I also frequently take it to potlucks, BBQ's and get-togethers. It has the perfect blend of ingredients for a true homemade, down home, apple dessert flavor. This is very comforting in the winter months served warm, yet refreshing in the summer months served at room temperature with a dollop of sour cream, cinnamon or vanilla ice cream.NOTE: Prep time does not include the 15 minute resting time after baking. Do not skip this step or the crisp will have to much unabsorbed liquid and will become messy on the plate.

- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Butter a 9 by 13 by 2-inch baking dish.
- Zest the orange and the lemon and squeeze the juices from both.
- Peel, core, and cut the apples into large wedges. Combine the apples with the zests, juices, sugar, and spices. Pour into the dish.
- To make the topping, combine the flour, sugars, salt, oatmeal, and cold butter in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Mix on low speed until the mixture is crumbly and the butter is the size of peas.
- Scatter evenly over the apples and cut the 4 table spoons of butter into slices. Place the slices all over the top of the topping. If you skip this step, you may find that you have dry spots in the topping.
- Place the crisp in its baking dish on a sheet pan to catch anything that may spill over and bake for 1 hour until the top is brown and the apples are bubbly.
- Allow to rest for 15 minutes before serving.
- COOKS NOTES: This can be made the day before. To store, let cool to room temperature, lightly place a paper towel on top of the crisp to absorb condensation. Cover tightly with foil, plastic wrap, or a lid. To reheat, place leftovers in the oven at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Or, microwave single servings for 30-40 seconds at a time until warmed through.

- Cut phyllo in half, spritz with butter-flavored spray.
- Layer phyllo with sprayed side up, in a greased 8 inch square baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine the brown sugar, flour, ginger, and cinnamon.
- Add apples and toss to coat.
- Spoon over phyllo dough.
- Topping:.
- In a bowl combine bread crumbs, flour, brown sugar, ginger, and cinnamon.
- Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse bread crumbs.
- Add almonds.
- Sprinkle over apple mixture.
- Bake at 350°F for 40- 45 minutes or until filling is bubbly and topping is golden.

CRISP APPLE CRISP
This is a recipe I used to make for a local restruant that closed down several years ago. I have adopted it to what I have found works! I've used a caramel sauce on top with vanilla ice cream and it was delicious! If you don't have caramel sauce, you make your own from either recipe: #69479 or #78088. Oat topping can be made ahead of time and refrigerated until ready to use.

- Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
- Grease a 9x9 pan (or another small baking pan of similar size).
- Mix dry indgredients for the oat topping in a medium bowl.
- Add butter and mix completely.
- Pour mixture into the 9x9 pan and place in oven for 8 minutes stirring occasionaly. Set aside to cool (mixture will harden as it cools).
- Set oven to 350 degrees.
- Mix dry ingredients for the apple mixture in a small bowl.
- Toss apples and sugar mixture together until apples are completely covered.
- Pour apples into a 9x9 pan and cover completely with the oat topping.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake in the oven for 30 minutes.
- Suggested additions: vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce.
