MODELING CHOCOLATE RECIPE

Modeling Chocolate Recipe image

A soft and pliable chocolate clay that can be used to sculpt shapes, cover cakes, or decorate treats will harden and hold its shape as it dries.

Provided by Beth Jackson Klosterboer

Categories     Candy

Time 12m

Number Of Ingredients 6

16 ounces white chocolate
1/3 cup light corn syrup (add more if needed*)
16 ounces semisweet chocolate
1/2 cup light corn syrup (add more if needed*)
16 ounces milk chocolate
1/3 cup light corn syrup (add more if needed*)

Steps:

  • Melt chocolate or confectionery coating. (Click here for instructions.)
  • Allow the chocolate to cool to about 91 degrees Fahrenheit, stirring often.
  • Pour in the corn syrup.
  • Stir slowly until well incorporated. The mixture will become thick very quickly, so scrape the bottom of the bowl to incorporate all of the melted chocolate.
  • Place the modeling chocolate in a zip-top bag and set aside to cool at room temperature for a few hours.
  • OR pour the modeling chocolate out onto a countertop, preferably marble or granite. Spread it out then scrape it up. Repeat. Continue to do this until it thickens.
  • Knead until glossy and smooth. If your hands are warm use a plastic dough scraper to knead the modeling chocolate.
  • Add more corn syrup, if needed, until the candy clay is nice and pliable.
  • Wrap the modeling chocolate in plastic wrap and place in a zip-top bag or airtight container.
  • Allow to dry for at least 30 minutes before using.

Time 20m

Yield 12

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 cups water
2 ½ cups white flour
½ cup salt
1 tablespoon cream of tartar
2 (0.13 ounce) packages unsweetened, fruit-flavored soft drink mix (such as KOOL-AID®)
3 tablespoons vegetable oil

Steps:

  • Bring the water to a boil in a sauce pan; remove from heat and set aside.
  • Whisk together the flour, salt, cream of tartar, and soft drink mix in a large bowl; stir the vegetable oil into the flour mixture using a spoon, not a whisk. Pour the hot water into the bowl and continue stirring. When the dough is cool enough to handle, turn it onto a lightly-floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes. Store unused portions in refrigerator.

MODELING CHOCOLATE

Modeling Chocolate image

A modeling chocolate recipe that has no lumps, is smooth and easy to work with. Can be made from candy melts or real chocolate. Used by the pros.

Provided by Elizabeth Marek

Categories     Dessert

Time 3h

Number Of Ingredients 5

16 oz white candy melts
4 oz corn syrup (or glucose) (Warmed for a few seconds until about body temperature)
Few drops gel food coloring (If you plan on coloring, if not, leave out)
6 oz corn syrup
16 oz chocolate (any kind)

Steps:

  • Melt candy melts in a plastic or microwave-safe bowl in the microwave or stove-top sauce pan.
  • Warm corn syrup and add food coloring. Remember that your final product will be lighter than the color of your corn syrup. You can also add color later if you want.
  • Fold mixture together with a spatula until mixture starts to seize and resembles soft serve ice cream.
  • It is important to not over-mix or your modeling chocolate will get oily.
  • Wrap in plastic and let set until chocolate is firm but still pliable. Usually a couple of hours depending on how hot it is in your room.
  • Unwrap chocolate and knead until smooth, smashing any hard lumps with your fingers.
  • Re-wrap chocolate and place back in plastic wrap to set up until hard.

1 tsp flavoring extract (vanilla or your choice)
OPTIONAL
several different paste or gel food colors

EDIBLE MODELING CLAY

Edible Modeling clay image

I needed something besides fondant to create some things for my baked goods. This recipe works well for molding the stuff I need and it tastes pretty good too.

Provided by Connie Deitz @Riven

Categories     Other Snacks

Number Of Ingredients 2

10 ounce(s) chocolate chips, white chips. can use almond bark and candy coating or candy disks
1/3 cup(s) light karo syrup

Steps:

  • melt chocolate in a microwave safe bowl 1 minute. Stir. If not fully melted return to microwave for 30 seconds at a time, stirring after each addition. Do not get the chocolate too hot. Can use a double boiler to melt the chocolate. Just have the water only to a simmer.
  • When the chocolate is fully melted. add the Karo syrup and stir to blend. The chocolate will come together and appear dry and crumbly.
  • Pour the mixture on a piece of wax paper and flatten into a disk. Cover with another piece of wax paper. Then leave it alone for at least 8 hours.
  • After setting for 8 hours remove the wax paper and knead the clay candy. It may get too soft to handle if you touch it too much, if so set in the refrigerator for a few minutes. Add powdered sugar or cornstarch if it gets too soft and sticky. Add only a little at a time. Have fun

  • This homemade clay uses oil and cream of tartar for thickening, producing a clay that's firmer than the one above. It's perfect for simple modeling projects, and it only requires a few ingredients
  • This recipe produces a modeling clay similar to the two above, but it uses cornstarch and baking soda rather than flour and salt
  • This recipe produces a clay with a smooth consistency similar to that of store-bought Play-Doh for kids. Air-dry products made with this clay.
  • This recipe can be used to make clay for ornaments, jewelry, or small sculptures. The clay hardens after baking. Pieces may be painted and sealed if desired.
