THANKSGIVING STUFFING (CHEAT! USING STOVE TOP)

Thanksgiving Stuffing (Cheat! Using Stove Top) image

Last year I used my method of making turkey/chicken stuffing and used the pre-made packaged mix. My family never knew the difference. Easy and quick with that homemade taste.

Provided by Aroostook

Categories     Meat

Time 15m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 medium onions, minced
2 -3 stalks celery, chopped fine
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning (I use Bell's)
2 cups turkey broth or 2 cups vegetable broth
hot water
2 (6 ounce) packages stove top-style seasoned stuffing mix

Steps:

  • Saute onions and celery in butter.
  • Sprinkle with poultry seasoning.
  • Set aside to cool slightly.
  • Toss this mixture into your favorite dry stuffing mix.
  • Heat broth and set aside.
  • Read directions on your favorite stuffing mix box.
  • Add enough hot water to the broth to make up the required liquid needed.
  • (Omit butter the recipe calls for as it was already used to saute vegetables.)
  • Pour over stuffing/vegetables mixture and mix well.
  • Stuff your chicken or turkey. For a side dish place stuffing in a baking dish; cover and bake for 15 to 25 minutes at 325 degrees Fahrenheit.

EASY STOVE TOP STUFFING SAUTE

Easy Stove Top Stuffing Saute image

This is a wonderful side dish for chicken and turkey dinner we like to drizzle some gravy over the stuffing --- you can also make this using turkey flavor stuffing and use turkey broth or chicken broth. Feel free to add in any other cooked meat or veggies that you desire, I most always add in chopped jalapeno peppers as my family likes spicy! :)

Time 25m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 large onions, coarsely chopped
2 -3 stalks celery, coarsely chopped
1 small green pepper, coarsely chopped
1 tablespoon minced garlic (or to taste)
1 -2 cup canned mushroom slices, drained
1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine
1 3/4 cups chicken broth (homemade or store bought)
1 1/2 cups canned corn niblets, drained (I just use one whole can)
2 (120 g) boxes stove top chicken flavor stuffing mix
black pepper
salt (optional)

Steps:

  • In an extra large fry pan or Dutch oven melt butter and sauté the onions, garlic, celery, and green pepper until soft (about 5-6 minutes).
  • Slowly add in the chicken broth, mushrooms (if using) and corn niblets; cover and simmer for about 5-6 minutes.
  • Add in black pepper to taste.
  • Remove from heat and add in the two boxes of chicken stuffing mix, and toss with a wooden spoon until the bread crumbs have absorbed the broth.
  • Cover with a lid and let stand for 10 minutes.
  • If you find it too dry just add in more broth.

  • Season with salt if needed and serve.

STOVETOP STUFFING

Stovetop Stuffing image

Since the oven can be full during Thanksgiving or Christmas, I'm showing you how to make stuffing on the stovetop that's not just "as good" as the one you bake, it might even be better. Stuffing can be served immediately, or reheated once the oven is available.

Provided by Chef John

Categories     Bread Stuffing and Dressing

Time 1h

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 13

8 cups cubed day-old white French bread, dried
1 ½ sticks unsalted butter, divided
1 large yellow onion, diced
1 ½ cups diced celery
1 ½ teaspoons kosher salt
1 ½ teaspoons dried sage
½ teaspoon dried thyme leaves
2 ½ cups turkey broth
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 pinch cayenne pepper
½ cup chopped fresh Italian parsley
1 tablespoon minced fresh rosemary
1 large egg, beaten

Steps:

  • Add dry bread cubes to a large mixing bowl and set aside.
  • Melt 1 stick of butter in a large skillet set over medium-high heat. Add onions, celery, and salt, and sauté until the onions soften and turn translucent, about 5 minutes. Add sage, thyme, and broth to the pan. Stir together and wait for the mixture to come to a boil.
  • Carefully remove from heat and pour over the bread cubes. Toss with a large spoon until the bread is evenly saturated.
  • Let the mixture sit and cool in the bowl for about 15 minutes, tossing occasionally.
  • Add black pepper, cayenne, parsley, rosemary, and beaten egg to the bowl and mix until evenly combined. Allow mixture to cool completely, tossing occasionally.
  • Melt remaining 1/2 stick of butter in a large, nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add the stuffing mixture, and pat down with a spatula. Cook until a golden brown crust forms, about 5 minutes, before turning the stuffing over, one spatula's worth at a time. Cover and cook about 5 minutes, before uncovering and tossing again. Continue cooking and tossing uncovered, until the desired amount of browning and crusting has occurred.
  • Transfer to a casserole dish or serving plate.

Categories     Chicken Dishes     Dinner Recipes     Main Dish

Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 1/2 cups chicken broth
6 oz Stove Top Stuffing boxed mix ((1 box or 1 packet in a twin pack))
1/2 cup milk
2 Tbsp butter
1 1/2 lbs pork chops ((4 thick-cut boneless pork loins or bone-in pork chops))
1/2 tsp each, salt & pepper ((to taste))
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/2 cup white onion ((optional, for stuffing - diced, or yellow onion))
1/2 cup celery ((optional, for stuffing))
1/2 cup dried cranberries ((optional, for stuffing))
gravy ((optional, for serving))

Steps:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13 pan or baking dish with oil or non-stick cooking spray.
  • Heat your chicken broth in the microwave for 2 minutes on high, or heat to a low boil in a small saucepan on the stovetop.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the Stove Top Stuffing Mix with heated broth, butter, and milk. Add optional ingredients onion, celery, and/or the dried cranberries if desired. Mix until well combined and set aside.
  • Trim any fat from the pork chops, then use a sharp knife to cut 3/4 of the way through the thickest portion of the pork chops (butterfly-style). Do this carefully, so that you do not cut all the way through!
  • Fill each pork chop with approximately 1/2 cup portion of the stuffing mixture and place them into the prepared baking dish. Spread any remaining stuffing around the pork chops. Mix together the salt, pepper, and garlic powder then sprinkle seasoning onto each pork chop.
  • Bake in the middle of the center rack in your oven at 375°F (190°C) for 25-30 minutes, depending on the thickness of your pork chops. The internal temperature should reach a minimum of 145°F (63°C) before serving.
  • Remove from the oven when done and serve immediately. Pour gravy over when serving if desired.

  • Spread the bread cubes across two large baking sheet. Bake for about 5-8 minutes until dried out and very lightly browned.
  • To make the stuffing: Melt the vegan butter in a large skillet or pan over medium-high heat. When melted add the carrots, celery, onion, and garlic. Sauté for about 5 minutes until the veggies soften and begin to brown.
  • Stir in the thyme, rosemary, sage, salt, and pepper. Then add the toasted bread cubes, vegetable broth, and dried cranberries -no need stir at this point. Remove the pan from heat and cover, then let sit for 10 - 15 minutes until softened. Once softened it will be easy to stir, so stir well to combine and serve hot. *I find some types of bread are more absorbent than others so if 1 cup of vegetable broth was not enough to reach desired texture, add a splash more, cover and let sit again until desired texture is reached.
