Texas Toast Sloppy Joes (+Video) image

These Cheesy BBQ Sloppy Joes are the most deliciously easy BBQ flavor sloppy joes on top of garlic Texas toast, topped with melted cheese!

1 pound ground beef
14.5 ounce can diced tomatoes
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup bottled barbecue sauce
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 box (8 slices) frozen garlic Texas toast
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, (or more to taste)

Steps:

  • Brown and crumble ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drain excess grease.
  • Return meat to skillet and add in diced tomatoes, ketchup, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce and sugar.
  • Give it all a good stir until combined then cover and cook on medium heat for about 10 minutes. While this is cooking, prepare the garlic Texas toast according to package directions.
  • When bread is ready, spoon filling on top of bread and then sprinkle with shredded cheese and serve.

1 pound ground beef
1 small green pepper, finely chopped
1 medium onion, finely chopped
3 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 cup dry red wine or beef broth
1 can (14-1/2 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
1/4 cup tomato paste
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 package (11-1/4 ounces) frozen garlic Texas toast
8 slices part-skim mozzarella cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425°. In a large skillet, cook beef with green pepper, onion and garlic over medium-high heat until meat is no longer pink, 5-7 minutes; crumble beef; drain. Stir in wine and bring to a boil; cook until wine is reduced by half, about 2 minutes. Stir in tomatoes, tomato paste, salt and pepper; return to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, until mixture is thickened, 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally., Meanwhile, place Texas toast on a foil-lined 15x10x1-in. pan; bake until lightly browned, 8-10 minutes., Spoon beef mixture onto toast; top with cheese. Bake until cheese is melted, 3-4 minutes. Serve immediately.

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 Tbsp olive oil
salt to taste
1¼ lb ground beef
½ c ketchup
1 c onion, chopped
2 c tomato sauce
1 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
1 Tbsp red wine vinegar
2 Tbsp brown sugar
½ tsp dried thyme
1 pinch cayenne pepper
1 clove garlic, finely diced
2 pinch freshly ground black pepper
loaf of whole oats bread, toasted

Steps:

  • 1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the chopped onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until onions are translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds. Remove from heat.
  • 2. Remove the vegetables from the pan to a medium sized bowl and set aside. Using the same pan, salt the bottom of the pan. Heat the pan on high.
  • 3. Crumble the ground beef into the hot pan. Do not stir, just let it sit till brown on one side. Flip the beef over and brown the other side. Add the garlic and onion to the beef in the pan. Add the ketchup, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, and brown sugar to the pan.
  • 4. Stir to mix well. Add the dried thyme, pepper and cayenne pepper. Lower heat to medium-low and let simmer for 10 minutes. Serve on toasted bread.
