EASY PHILLY CHEESESTEAK RECIPE (+VIDEO!)

Easy Philly Cheesesteak Recipe (+Video!) image

This Philly Cheesesteak recipe is so easy: thinly sliced ribeye steak with gooey provolone cheese, onions, peppers, and mushrooms all on a hoagie roll.

Provided by Quin Liburd

Categories     Entrée

Number Of Ingredients 11

3 tablespoons butter
1 1/2 cups baby bella mushrooms
1 large onion, sliced into half-moons
1 green bell pepper, sliced into strips
1 lb ribeye steak, thinly sliced
1 teaspoon kosher salt
fresh cracked black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
6-8 slices provolone cheese
hoagie rolls, for serving
optional: mayonnaise

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat. Once butter is sizzling, sauté mushrooms until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Then transfer to a plate and set aside.
  • Add onions into same skillet and sauté until slightly caramelized, about 5-6 minutes.
  • Add peppers into skillet with onions and cook until peppers get soft, about 3-4 minutes. Then set onions/peppers aside with mushrooms.
  • Add steak into pan and cook until all meat is browned, about 5-6 minutes. Season steak with spices and add all veggies back into skillet. Stir to fully combine.
  • Using a spatula, section off each serving in your pan and place cheese slices directly over each serving. Take off heat and allow residual heat to melt cheese onto steak mixture.
  • Lightly toast hoagie rolls and smear with a bit of mayo, if desired. Add more cheese to prepared rolls and fill each roll with cheesesteak mixture. Roll each sandwich in foil and allow to sit for at least 5 minutes, then enjoy!

PHILLY CHEESE STEAK

Philly Cheese Steak image

It's hard to think of Philadelphia without thinking of the cheesesteak, a sandwich containing chopped steak, melted cheese and sometimes peppers and onions. The big cheese steak debate, ongoing between rival restaurants Pat's and Geno's, is whether the steak should be topped with Provolone or American cheese, or canned cheese whiz. Bobby Flay's loaded cheese steak recipe is topped with a melted Provolone sauce, onions, peppers and mushrooms.

Provided by Bobby Flay

Categories     main-dish

Time 2h15m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 29

2 to 2 1/2 pound strip loin, trimmed
Olive oil
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Soft hoagie rolls, split 3/4 open
Provolone Sauce, recipe follows
Sauteed Mushrooms, recipe follows
Caramelized Onions, recipe follows
Sauteed Peppers, recipe follows
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
2 cups whole milk, heated
1 cup grated aged provolone cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmigiano-Reggiano
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1 1/2 pounds mushrooms (cremini and shiitake), coarsely chopped
3 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley leaves
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 tablespoons canola oil
3 large Spanish onions, peeled, halved and thinly sliced
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 poblano peppers, thinly sliced
2 Cubano peppers, thinly sliced
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Place steak in freezer for 30 to 45 minutes; this makes it easier to slice the meat. Remove the meat from the freezer and slice very thinly.
  • Heat griddle or grill pan over high heat. Brush steak slices with oil and season with salt and pepper. Cook for 45 to 60 seconds per side.
  • Place several slices of the meat on the bottom half of the roll, spoon some of the cheese sauce over the meat, and top with the mushrooms, onions, and peppers.
  • Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Slowly whisk in the warm milk, and cook, whisking constantly until thickened, about 4 to 5 minutes. Remove the mixture from the heat and whisk in the provolone and Parmesan until combined; season with the salt and pepper.
  • Heat oil and butter in a large saute pan over high heat. Add the mushrooms and cook until the mushrooms are golden brown. Stir in the parsley and season with salt and pepper.
  • Heat butter and oil in a large saute pan over medium heat. Add the onions, season with salt and pepper, and cook slowly until golden brown and caramelized, stirring occasionally, approximately 30 to 40 minutes.
  • Heat the oil in medium saute pan over high heat. Add the peppers and cook until soft. Season with salt and pepper.

EASY AUTHENTIC PHILLY CHEESE STEAK

Easy Authentic Philly Cheese Steak image

Mu husband grew up in Reading, PA and Rochester, NY but now lives in Arizona with me. He is always complaining that nobody knows how to make a real cheese steak. However, I made this and he says "I hit it on the nose."

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 20m

Yield 6 sandwiches, 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

Slow Cooker Philly Cheesesteaks image

Sink your teeth into a bite of our Slow Cooker Philly Cheesesteaks and you'll be adding these sandwiches to your weekly menu rotation in no time.

Provided by Meghan Yager

Categories     Sandwiches

Time 8h10m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 1/2 pounds boneless beef steak (like top round London broil or sirloin)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 large green bell pepper, sliced
1 large white onion, sliced
24 ounces beef broth
4-6 slices provolone or your choice of cheese (optional)
4 rolls, for serving

Steps:

  • Thinly slice beef into long, thin strips and place in the slow cooker.
  • Add garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. Toss to coat the beef with the seasonings.
  • Add bell pepper, onion, and beef broth, and stir to combine.
  • Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours, until beef and vegetables are tender. For a party, switch to the warm setting after filling is cooked.

I love a great steak & cheese! This Philly cheese steak is pretty darn good!' Found on Favfamilyrecipes.com

Provided by Angela Pietrantonio

Categories     Steaks and Chops

Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 c beef broth
1 pkg onion soup mix
1 lb black angus rare roast beef (regular roast beef works great too, just make sure it's from the deli and thinly sliced)
1 green bell pepper, sliced
1 large white or yellow onion, sliced
8 oz cream cheese
sliced provolone cheese (2 slices per sandwich)
4 hoagie rolls

Steps:

  • 1. Bring beef broth and onion soup mix to a boil. Add roast beef, reduce heat, and simmer for about 5-10 minutes.
  • 2. In the meantime, in a large skillet saute onion and green pepper. When beef is done simmering, drain juices (you can keep the juice if you want to make an "au jus" dip)
  • 3. Add roast beef to skillet along with about 4 oz. of cream cheese. Spread remaining cream cheese on each hoagie roll. When the cream cheese in the skillet is all melted, generously portion beef mixture onto each hoagie roll. Top with provolone cheese and place sandwiches, open-faced on a large baking sheet. Broil on high for about a minute or until cheese becomes bubbly and bread becomes slightly toasty. Remove from oven and serve immediately. 13 points (not including roll)

CHEESESTEAK

Cheesesteak image

Provided by Robert Irvine : Food Network

Categories     main-dish

Time 25m

Yield 4 sandwiches

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 tablespoons grapeseed oil
2 cups thinly sliced yellow onions
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
Four 9-inch sub rolls
2 pounds shaved beef steak, such as rib-eye or sirloin
12 thin slices provolone

Steps:

  • In a large saute pan or griddle, heat the oil over medium-high heat for 1 minute, and then add the onions, 1 tablespoon salt and 1 teaspoon pepper. Cook the onions until caramelized, stirring throughout the process, 5 to 6 minutes. Remove and keep warm.
  • Spread the softened butter on the interiors of the rolls and cook, butter-side down, on a griddle until browned, 1 to 2 minutes. Remove the rolls, add the raw steak to the griddle and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Cook briefly, shredding the meat into small pieces with two metal spatulas. Add the onions and cook for 2 minutes.
  • Portion the meat into four piles, and top each pile with 3 slices of the provolone. Continue to cook until the cheese melts (putting on the lid and adding a little water to the pan can help with this step). Cover each pile with a browned roll, and slide a spatula under the meat to pick it up with the roll.
