MICROWAVE POACHED EGGS

Microwave Poached Eggs image

I have been poaching eggs in the microwave for many years. For me this is the best way to prepare poached eggs for 2. It is quick, easy and almost foolproof. Please make sure you use a toothpick to pierce the yolk before cooking or it will explode!

Time 6m

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 large egg
1/8 teaspoon white vinegar
1/3 cup water
salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Add the water and white vinegar to a 6 ounce custard cup.
  • Break egg into cup, pierce egg yolk with toothpick, and cover dish loosely with plastic wrap.
  • Place in microwave and cook for 1 minute or until desired doneness.
  • You may need to experiment with cooking times based on the wattage of your microwave and taste preference.
  • Immediately remove egg from hot water with a slotted spoon as it will continue to cook.
  • Serve with salt and pepper to taste.

SIMPLE MICROWAVE POACHED EGGS

Simple Microwave Poached Eggs image

My DH used to make himself poached eggs using this method all the time. This recipe was found in Chatelaine Food Express Quickies. The cooking time includes the standing time. Note: After reading Lorrie in Montreal's review, I've added poking the egg to prevent messy explosions to the procedure :)

MICROWAVE POACHED EGGS

Microwave Poached Eggs image

Microwave poached eggs take less than two minutes to prepare (really), and the result is perfect poached eggs. No pots or pans required.

Provided by Stephanie Gallagher

Categories     Breakfast     Brunch     Lunch

Time 3m

Number Of Ingredients 4

1/2 cup water (cold)
2 large eggs
Kosher salt (to taste)
Freshly ground black pepper (to taste)

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • Fill a microwave-safe coffee cup, glass, or microwave-safe liquid measuring cup with 1/2 cup of cold tap water.
  • Crack 1 egg into the cup.
  • Place a saucer on top of the cup so that it covers the opening completely.
  • Microwave on high for 30 seconds and then see if the egg white is cooked through. If not, continue to microwave in 10-second increments. Wait several seconds before removing the lid as steam can escape quickly and powerfully, even after a very short amount of cooking time.
  • Repeat with the other egg in a fresh cup. Serve with salt and pepper, and enjoy.

  • Fill a straight-sided coffee mug halfway with water. Crack an egg and let it slide down the side of the mug to the bottom. Make sure there's enough water in the mug to cover the egg by at least 1 inch with 2 inches of space above it.
  • Using the tip of a sharp knife or a toothpick, gently poke a small hole in the yolk. This allows steam to escape during the cooking process, so your microwave poached egg doesn't explode.
  • Place a saucer (not a paper plate and not a paper towel) over the top of the mug and microwave it on HIGH for 1 minute. Check the egg for doneness and repeat in 10-second bursts, checking after each, until done.
  • Gently tilt the mug away from you and lift the lid. Remove the egg carefully with a slotted spoon. Serve immediately.

  • Fill microwave-safe mug or small bowl with 1/3 cup water and a splash of vinegar, if you’d like. The vinegar is optional, but it will help the egg coalesce a bit better.
  • Gently crack an egg into the mug or bowl, making sure it’s covered in water. Be sure to prick the egg yolk with a fork or toothpick to prevent any explosions.
  • Cover your mug or bowl with a small microwave-safe plate and microwave on high for one minute. The egg white should be set but the yolk still runny. If the egg white is still runny, keep microwaving in 10 second increments until you’re satisfied with the level of doneness. It's worth noting that, unlike poaching eggs on the stovetop, the microwave tends to cook the yolk faster than the white. If you like your white a little softer, you might want to take your egg out earlier.
  • Remove the egg from the water with a slotted spoon and transfer it to a plate. Add a dash of salt and pepper (or my personal fave, Sriracha) to taste. Enjoy on toast, on a salad, or deliciously on its own.

  • Fill a non-stick skillet with 2-3 inches of water or a medium sauce pan with 4 inches of water with the vinegar. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat until bubbles form on the bottom of the pan.
  • Crack the egg into a ramekin or small microwave safe bowl with 1/4 to 1/2 cup water depending on the size of the ramekin so the egg is covered with water. Poke the whites around the egg yolk 3 times with a sharp knife so the whites cook thoroughly. Cook on high for 1 minute in the microwave with an extra 15 seconds blasts if the egg isn’t cooked to your liking. Strain from the water.
  • Place the Instant Pot's wire trivet in the bottom of the insert and add 1 cup of water. Spray 3-4 ramekins with cooking spray and crack an egg into each one. Turn pressure knob to the sealing position. Select the STEAM button and set time for 3 minutes. When the Instant Pot beeps, immediately release the pressure. Carefully open the lid and remove the ramekins from the insert. Use a silicone spatula to release the eggs and slide out of the ramekins.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F. Spray a 6-tin, non-stick muffin tin with canola oil spray then crack the eggs into the tins. Poke the whites with a sharp knife 3 times around the outside of the yolk to break up the whites to set as they cook. If you want a hard cooked egg, gently pierce the egg yolk with a sharp knife. Cover with 2 tablespoons of water and bake for 8-10 minutes or until desired doneness.
