Quick and Easy Crab Melts image

Crab Melts are a fast, easy and delicious way to enjoy fresh or canned crab meat, perfect as a meal in themselves or sliced as finger food at parties.

½ cup white crab meat
1 tsp Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons finely chopped red pepper
1 tablespoon finely chopped celery
2 tablespoons crème fraîche or sour cream (low fat is fine)
salt and pepper to taste
4 slices of Monterey Jack cheese or Swiss cheese (or use Pepper Jack if you like a bit of spice)
a four or five inch slice of baguette or 2 or 3 pieces of sliced bread

Steps:

  • Put the French bread or ciabatta bread halves in the oven on a baking sheet at about 350°F (175°C) or under the broiler or grill for five minutes or until they are beginning to take on a bit of colour.
  • Meanwhile, mix the crab meat with the mustard, red pepper, and celery.
  • Add crème fraîche or sour cream as well as salt and pepper to taste. Mix together gently.
  • Divide the crab mixture between the pieces of bread and top with the cheese slices.
  • Return the crab and cheese topped bread to the oven for five to ten minutes, or place under the broiler or grill, until the cheese is bubbling and brown.
  • The cheese gets very hot, so allow these to cool a bit before serving one half of the panini or ciabatta to each person, or cutting into small pieces to serve as hors d'oeuvres.

1 c mayonnaise
1 can(s) 8 oz crab
1 c grated cheddar cheese
1 c mozzarella cheese
6 green onions, ....more or less...chopped
1 dash(es) old bay seasoning
1 loaf french bread sliced

Steps:

  • 1. Mix the first 6 ingredients together. Toast the bread slices in the broiler. Mound up crab spread on top of bread slices and broil until hot.

1/2 lb crabmeat
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
2 teaspoons prepared mustard
2 teaspoons lemon juice
6 slices white bread
2 tablespoons parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon dry breadcrumbs

Steps:

  • Remove cartilage from cooked crabmeat.
  • Combine mayonnaise, mustard, lemon juice and crabmeat.
  • Toast bread, then cut off the crusts.
  • Spread crabmeat mixture on each slice of toast.
  • Combine cheese and crumbs.
  • Sprinkle cheese mixture on top of crabmeat.
  • Cut slices into 6 pieces, each.
  • Place on a broiler pan 3" from heat.
  • Broil for 2 minutes until brown.

This Cheesy Crab French Bread Appetizer takes bubbly, melty and tantalizing to a whole new level!

2 cups crab meat (I used Imitation for today's recipe)
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/3 cup chopped parsley plus more for garnish
1/4 cup sour cream
1 Tbsp lemon juice, plus more for garnish
1/2 tsp garlic salt
1/2 tsp dill
1/2 tsp celery seed
1 loaf French bread
1/2 lb. Swiss cheese, shredded

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 F.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine first 8 ingredients. Set aside.
  • Cut bread in half, lengthwise.
  • Place bread on a baking sheet, cut side up.
  • Sprinkle the shredded cheese on the bread.
  • Cover the cheese with the crab mixture.
  • Bake for 25 minutes or until lightly browned.
  • Cut each half in to appetizer-sized pieces. Top with a sprinkle of chopped parsley and a squeeze of lemon.

1 (6 ounce) can fancy white crab meat
1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine, softened
2 loaves English muffins

Steps:

  • Mix Cheez Whiz, Margarine and Crab Meat in a bowl.
  • Cut your english muffins in half.
  • Spread the mixture onto the English muffins, like you would thick butter.
  • Toast them on Broil until lightly brown.

  • Cut baguette into approximately 6" lengths then use a long, thin knife to hollow out the interior of each piece. Leave a ½" wall all the way around the interior of the bread, removing only the very center. Set the bread aside.
  • In a medium-sized mixing bowl, add imitation crab, breaking the chunks into very small pieces with a fork. Add cream cheese, celery, lemon zest, lemon juice, seasoned salt, dill and green onion. Mix to combine, making sure cream cheese is evenly incorporated.
  • Add only as much mayonnaise as needed to bind the mixture together. Then, pack the center of each piece of baguette with the crab filling. Don’t leave any space empty.
  • Wrap each piece of baguette with plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 2 hours or until filling is firm. Remove from the fridge and slice into ½"-thick slices to serve as an appetizer or simply cut into desired portions to serve as a delicious lunch. Enjoy!
