Golden Apple Bundles image

This recipe is an interesting way to use apples. I usually make them on Fridays, so when family and friends drop in on the weekend, I have a nice dessert to serve. They bake flaky and golden brown outside and moist inside. -Lila Eller, Everett, Washington

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 cups chopped peeled apples
1/3 cup chopped walnuts
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup raisins
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Pastry for double-crust pie
Milk
Sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450°. In a large bowl, combine apples, walnuts, brown sugar, raisins, flour, lemon zest and cinnamon; set aside. , Roll pastry to 1/8-in. thickness. Cut into 5-in. circles. Spoon about 1/4 cup apple mixture into center of each circle. Moisten edges of pastry with water. Fold over and seal edges with a fork. , Place on a greased baking sheet. Bake 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 400° bake 10 minutes. Brush each with milk and sprinkle with sugar; return to oven for 5 minutes.

Apple Wonton Bundles image

When preparing fondue for the main meal, don't forget to have a fondue dessert as well. These deliciously different treats taste just like caramel apples.

Number Of Ingredients 4

4 medium tart apples, peeled
64 wonton wrappers
2 to 3 cups canola oil
1 jar (12 ounces) caramel ice cream topping, warmed

Steps:

  • Cut each apple into four wedges; cut wedges into four pieces. Place a piece of apple in the center of each wonton wrapper. Brush edges of wrapper with water and bring up around apple; pinch to seal. Cover until ready to cook. , Heat oil in a fondue pot to 375°. Use fondue forks to cook wonton bundles until golden brown (about 1 minute). Cool slightly. Serve with caramel topping.

A lovely dessert presentation and oh so easy to make! I got this from a friend who was selling cookware products, including those nifty apple peeler-corer-slicer things. She used this to prove to me why I just HAD to have one of those gadgets. It worked (though I must admit that I haven't touched the gadget in ages, but it isn't necessary for this recipe).

1 sheet puff pastry (1/2 of a 17 oz box of sheets)
apple
1/2 cup orange juice
1/3 cup cinnamon sugar

Steps:

  • Cut pastry sheet in half, and then into 1/2" strips.
  • Peel, core, and thinly slice apples horizontally. Cut the slices into half, so that each one is a half-moon shape.
  • Wrap a strip of pastry round each slice of apple.
  • Lay in the bottom of a deep dish casserole in concentric circles, single layer (like a fruit tart).
  • Pour orange juice over everything.
  • Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
  • Bake at 350F for 30-45 minutes.
