This delicious Dutch apple pie was brought to my mother's home the day after my father died on Christmas Eve 25 years ago. Every time I bake it I am reminded of the tremendous outpouring of love and support that we received. It's a pie that my sweet daddy would have loved. -Eugenia McQueen, Tampa, Florida

Number Of Ingredients 12

3/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Pinch salt
1 large egg, beaten
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup sour cream
2 cups chopped peeled tart apples
1 unbaked pie shell (9 inches)
STREUSEL TOPPING:
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons cold butter

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the sugar, flour and salt. Stir in the egg, vanilla and sour cream; stir until smooth. Add apples; mix well. Pour into pie crust. Bake at 375° for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 325° and bake for 30 minutes more. , For topping, combine flour and sugar in a small bowl. Cut in butter until crumbly. Sprinkle topping over pie; bake 20 minutes longer or until filling is bubbly and topping is browned. Cool on a wire rack. Serve warm or chilled. Store in the refrigerator.

This is a really basic, simple, and easy-to-make traditional potato salad from Holland. Great recipe to finish up corned beef and potato leftovers! It's hearty and savory with a zesty sweet tang to it. Normally served for parties but can be served as a side dish for lunch or appetizer. Serve with fresh white or brown bread rolls.

¾ cup mayonnaise
3 tablespoons ketchup
2 tablespoons warm water
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
½ cup pickled gherkins, chopped
½ cup marinated cocktail onions, cut in half
¾ cup diced Granny Smith apple
½ cup carrot, shredded
1 ½ cups canned corned beef, shredded
2 cups coarsely mashed potatoes
1 pinch salt and ground black pepper to taste
½ cup cucumber, halved and thinly sliced
½ cup cherry tomatoes, halved
4 hard-cooked eggs, sliced
2 tablespoons mayonnaise

Steps:

  • Combine 3/4 cup mayonnaise, ketchup, warm water, and vinegar in a large bowl and mix well. Stir in chopped gherkins, cocktail onions, diced apple, and shredded carrot. Add corned beef, mashed potatoes, and salt and pepper to taste; mix well.
  • Form the potato salad on a plate as a loaf or a round mound. Garnish with slices of cucumber, halved cherry tomatoes, and slices of egg. Decorate with swirls or wavy lines of mayonnaise to add a little flair (see Cook's Note). Chill for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to blend.

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 cup whole milk
1 egg
2 large Golden Delicious apples, chopped
2 large Red Delicious apples, chopped
1/2 cup finely chopped celery
1/2 cup seedless red grapes, quartered
1/2 cup chopped walnuts, toasted

Steps:

  • In a small heavy saucepan, combine the flour and sugar. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Cook and stir over medium-high heat until thickened and bubbly. Reduce heat; cook and stir 2 minutes longer. Remove from the heat. Stir a small amount of hot mixture into egg; return all to the pan, stirring constantly. Bring to a gentle boil; cook and stir 2 minutes longer. Remove from the heat. , Transfer to a small bowl. Cool to room temperature without stirring. Cover surface of salad dressing with waxed paper; refrigerate until cooled., Just before serving, combine the apples and celery in a large salad bowl. Drizzle with dressing; gently toss to coat. Sprinkle with grapes and walnuts.

1 1/3 cups ham, diced and cooked
2 granny smith apples, peeled, cored and chopped
3/4 cup potato, diced and cooked
2 hard-boiled eggs, chopped
3 small dill pickles, chopped (about 1/4 c)
1/3 cup buttermilk dressing or 1/3 cup feta cheese dressing
1 teaspoon minced onion
lettuce leaf, to garnish
paprika, to garnish

  • Combine ingredients and serve on lettuce leaves.

This Dutch apple cake recipe is one of the best apple cake recipes of all time. It's moist, delicious and very easy to make.

2 cups AP flour (all purpose flour, sifted )
4 teaspoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ cup cane sugar
¼ cup unsalted butter (4 tablespoons )
1.5 teaspoons vanilla flavor
1 egg (beaten )
1 cup 2% milk
3 medium apples ( peeled and cubed, 2 honey crisp 1 granny smith )
1 teaspoon cinnamon
¼ cup cane sugar
1 tablespoon brown sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven 375 degrees.
  • Grease a 9-inch spring form pan or metal baking dish. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, sugar and salt.
  • Next, using two knives or a fork gently cut the soft butter into the flour mixture. Making sure to incorporate it until there are no large lumps.
  • Next, add a whisked egg, vanilla and milk.
  • Gently fold everything together until the batter forms. It will be slightly sticky so don't worry. The juice from apples will moisten the cake as it bakes.
  • Next, peel and slice 3 medium sized apples. I used 2 honey crisp and 1 grnny smith apple.
  • If you opt to slice the apples, you should get about 4 slices per quarter. If you cube the apples, just give them a rough chop. Each piece should be about the size of a nickel.
  • In a separate mixing bowl, add the cubed apples, cinnamon, cane and brown sugar. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
  • Next, pour the batter into the greased pan. Spread the batter and place the apples on top of the batter.
  • Gently press the apples into the batter.
  • Bake for 40 minutes or until the center is fully cooked.
  • Remove from the oven and serve slightly warm.
