These nuts can be either a snack, or used as a garnish for a saute. Posted for Zaar World Tour 2005...haven't tried it yet.

Number Of Ingredients 2

2 cups walnuts or 2 cups hazelnuts
3 tablespoons tamari soy sauce

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Spread the nuts on a baking sheet and bakd for 5 minutes.
  • Drizzle soy sauce on nuts and stir well.
  • Bake for 5 more minutes.
  • Turn off the oven, stir the nuts again, and leave them in the oven for an additional 5 minutes.
  • The nuts will be dry and crisp.
  • Allow nuts to cool.

A healthy snack for watching TV or a lunchbox. For a gluten free diet check that the rice crackers and tamari sauce are both labelled as gluten free. Makes a great gift. Quick and simple to make. You cna use any combination of nuts and seeds- just vary the amount of tamari sauce used

100 g rice crackers (use one packet of crackers)
1 cup whole almond
1 cup cashew nuts
1/2 cup pepitas
1/2 cup sunflower seeds
1/2 cup tamari

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 160°C or 320°F (use a lower heat if fan-forced oven being used).
  • Combine everything in a large mixing bowl, addin the tamari last. Combine to ensure that all ingredients are coated in the Tamari sauce. Add a little extra sauce if required. Stand for 15 minutes.
  • Place onto two large baking trays. Bake for 25 to 30 min utes. The nts will dry roast.
  • Store in an airtight container.

Tamari Roasted Almonds image

When you buy giant bags of raw almonds from Costco this is a great recipe for using some of them! They have a really nice roasted, earthy, salty flavor, without the salt getting all over your fingers. :) And they're way cheaper than buying Tamari almonds at Whole Foods or Trader Joe's. This is an epicurious recipe with the amounts tweaked slightly. Tamari is basically real, awesome soy sauce that hasn't been super processed and filled with preservatives.

3 cups whole unblanched almonds
1/4 cup tamari
1/2 teaspoon sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 300°F.
  • Spread almonds in one layer on a baking sheet (you may need two pans) - bake 15 minutes.
  • While baking, mix tamari and sugar in a large bowl until sugar dissolves.
  • Add hot almonds to bowl and stir to coat. Let sit in bowl 5 min, stirring occasionally.
  • Return almonds to baking sheets (use slotted spoon so you don't get too much liquid).
  • Bake 12 minutes, stir and rotate tray, then bake 12 more minutes until almonds are dark brown.
  • Remove from oven, cool completely, then store in an airtight container.
