Dominos Style Garlic Bread Recipe - How to Make Garlic Bread at Home image

Dominos Style Garlic Bread Recipe is a simple garlic bread recipe made in a similar style to the one that is served in Dominos restaurant and uses some very simple ingredients that should mostly be readily available at home.

1/4 cup Luke Warm Milk
3/4 tbsp Sugar
1 ½ tsp Yeast (dry active yeast)
1 ¾ cup All-Purpose Flour
1 tsp Salt
1 tbsp Garlic (crushed)
1 tbsp Oregano Seasoning
1 ½ tbsp Butter
1/4 cup Water
5-6 pods Garlic (crushed, or finely chopped)
3 tbsp Butter (melted)
Maize Flour (as needed)
4 tbsp Oregano
1 tbsp Black Pepper
1 tbsp Chilli Flakes
1 tbsp Garlic Powder
1 tsp Salt

Steps:

  • Take a mortar pestle, add oregano, black pepper, red chilli flakes and garlic powder.
  • Pound till coarse, so the flavours blend very well and keep aside. You can either use store bought oregano seasoning or make your own by following this recipe. This seasoning is very important, since it provides the necessary flavour to garlic bread. Once the mixture is ready set it aside.
  • In a bowl add the milk and the sugar. Mix it so that the sugar dissolves.
  • Add the yeast and mix it well. Let it stay for the yeast to get activated. (After mixing allow to stand for 10 to 15 minutes till the yeast solution bubbles up and becomes frothy).
  • Once the yeast is activated, add the all-purpose flour, salt, crushed garlic, and the Oregano. (you can add oregano even after mixing the dough, and then again give it a nice mix).
  • Add luke warm water little by little and start kneading the dough. Add enough water to keep the dough a little sticky.
  • Knead it into a soft sticky dough and continue kneading for about 8-10 minutes till the time the dough stops sticking and develops a soft texture.
  • Add the butter and knead it again for another 5 minutes.
  • Fold the dough from the sides inwards towards the bottom and keep it in a bowl. Brush butter all over the dough and cover it and let it rest. (This process is called proofing of the yeast/ raising the dough).
  • Leave the dough for about 45 minutes to 1 hour until the dough has more than doubled in size.
  • Once the dough has proofed, take it out on a platform and knead it for another 5 minutes.
  • Now cut the dough into two parts.
  • Take each part and fold the dough inwards just like you did it in the earlier step.
  • Spread some maize flour on the platform and place one part of the risen dough on the maize flour. Addition of maize flour gives a rough texture similar to what you get in Dominos Garlic bread.
  • With soft hands spread the dough and make it into a round about 8 inches in diameter.
  • Now fold it in half and stick the edges with soft hands.
  • In a pan melt some butter and add the chopped garlic to it.
  • Take a pizza tray or, a baking tray and apply butter generously on it. Then sprinkle oregano seasoning generously on the tray.
  • Now place the folded base on the tray and apply butter all over it.
  • Sprinkle Oregano generously on the top layer.
  • Then using a knife make small portions of the base.
  • Preheat your oven to 260 degrees for about 20 minutes.
  • Place the tray in the preheated oven and bake at 260 degrees for about 15 minutes.
  • You might want to rotate the tray once in between so that all the sides are nicely baked.
  • Once the bread is baked, take out the tray and apply butter all over the bread.
  • Your garlic bread is ready to be served.

3 teaspoons sugar
1 3/4 cups warm water[3]
1 teaspoon yeast
4/1/2 cups enriched flour
2 tablespoons vital wheat gluten[4]
2 teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons soybean oil[4][5]
Additional flour, for sprinkling[6]
2 tablespoons melted butter
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Steps:

  • In a large Pyrex measuring cup, measure 1 ¾ cups of warm water. Add the yeast and sugar to the warm water, stir and set aside. In a large bowl, mix the enriched flour, vital wheat gluten, and salt. Once the yeast mixture has begun to foam (bloom), pour it into the flour mixture. Add the soybean oil to the mixture. Combine the flour, oil, and yeast mixture by kneading it with your hands or using a dough hook in a standing electric mixer until smooth. Wrap the dough in plastic; chill in the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes. (Chilled dough is easier to shape than dough that is room temperature.) Preheat the oven to 450 F. Sprinkle a bit of flour over the dough to prevent it from sticking to the work surface.[6] Place the dough on your work surface and cut it into 4 pieces. Gently shape each piece of dough into a ball by stretching the edges of the dough and tucking them under to make a bread bowl. Make a ¼ inch deep cut along the top of each ball and put it onto a pizza stone or baking sheet. Brush the top and sides of the dough with melted butter. Sprinkle with garlic powder. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake the bread bowls for approximately 40-45 minutes. You will know the bread is done when the crust is light brown and the center is cooked through. Remove from the oven and allow the bread bowls to rest on a cooling rack.

  • Mix the dough. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook, combine the yeast and water. Then, add the sugar, salt and 3 cups of flour.
  • Knead. Increase your mixer to its second speed and knead the dough for 5 to 7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic. Alternatively, you can also turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead by hand for 6 to 8 minutes.
  • Proof. Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let the dough proof in a warm place until doubled, about 30 minutes.
  • Shape and rise. Preheat the oven to 500°. Then, punch the dough down and divide it into six equal-sized balls, about 265 grams each. Place the balls 3 inches apart on two greased baking sheets.
  • Score and bake. Prior to baking, brush the risen dough balls gently with egg wash and then spray with water. Using a sharp knife (or a bread lame), score the dough with shallow cuts in an “X” pattern.
  • Hollow. To hollow out the loaves and turn them into bread bowls, use a serrated knife to slice off the top of the bread. For best results, angle the knife and carve around the “X” on the top of each loaf—almost in the same way that you would remove the top from a pumpkin when carving a jack-o-lantern.
