Number Of Ingredients 5

1 stick butter
2 c semi-sweet baking chocolate
1 1/2 c graham crackers, crushed
1 1/3 c coconut, flaked
14 oz sweetened condensed milk, can

Steps:

  • 1. preheat oven to 350. place butter in a 9x13 pan and place in the oven until melted. sprinkle the graham cracker crumbs evenly over the butter and press down with a fork to form a crust.
  • 2. add chocolate chips over the crust and top with coconut. pour condensed milk over the entire mixture to cover coconut completely.
  • 3. bake for 25-39 minutes or until golden brown. cool completely and then cut into squares.

A perfect recipe for the slow cooker/crockpot. For fullest flavor, do not peel the vegetables (all solids will be strained out, anyway). From the Southern chapter of the United States Regional Cookbook, Culinary Arts Institute of Chicago, 1947. Chilling time not included in preparation time.

4 lbs beef, cubed
1 veal knuckle or 1 soup bone
2 turnips, diced
2 carrots, diced
1 bunch soup greens (celery, parsnip, turnip, dill, leek, and parsley)
1 dried red pepper
2 onions, chopped
2 teaspoons salt (or to taste)
6 quarts water

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients and simmer for 6 hours.
  • Strain through a fine sieve; let stand in the refrigerator overnight.
  • Skim off all the fat.
  • Heat before serving.
