ESPRESSO FLAVORED VODKA

Espresso Flavored Vodka image

I am too cheap to buy the expensive liqueurs, so I make my own. I wanted to try a Espresso flavored brownie and this was needed ingredient.

Provided by Marsha Gardner

Categories     Cocktails

Number Of Ingredients 4

8 oz freshly brewed espresso
1 lb superfine sugar
18 oz vodka
1 tsp pure vanilla extract or whole vanilla bean

Steps:

  • 1. Heat espresso in a saucepan over medium heat.
  • 2. Add the sugar. Stir constantly until it dissolves.
  • 3. Remove from the heat once the sugar has dissolved. Set aside to cool.
  • 4. Once cooled, pour in the vodka and vanilla. Mix briefly. If using the vanilla pod, leave until the next step.
  • 5. Pour the vodka coffee mixture into the glass jar. Store in a dark and dry place for a minimum of 48 hours. Store longer if wished/possible. The longer it is stored, the longer it infuses.
  • 6. Strain the liquid into the storage bottle. Keep with the rest of your alcohol until needed.

HOW TO MAKE FRUIT VODKAS | KITCHN
how-to-make-fruit-vodkas-kitchn image
2013-08-29 You can use either 80-proof or 100-proof vodka to make fruit-flavored vodkas. 80-proof is easier to find in stores, and I prefer it in cocktails. 100-proof vodka will extract better (and more) fruit flavor, but I find that it can tend to taste a little “hot” or raw in cocktails. I like using 100-proof if I’m planning to add simple syrup to make the vodka …

  • Strawberry Vodka. Capture the essence of sweet strawberries in a delicious vodka. This infusion should take a little over a week and it's perfect for a variety of cocktails like the sparkling strawberry rosé recipe, pairing the vodka with pear, basil, and sparkling wine.
  • Watermelon Vodka. Perfect for summer, watermelon vodka is too much fun. Use it to accent cocktails like the summertime fruit punch lemonade. If you want something a little more dynamic for your barbecue, try a drunken watermelon.
  • Pear Vodka. While you can mix up a peartini with store-bought pear vodka, this infusion is easy to do at home. You can use any variety of pears and the finished flavor works really well with other autumn and early winter flavors.
  • Lemon Vodka. Lemon vodkas are not very common. When you have a cocktail that calls for it, it may be easier to make it yourself. A recipe like the lavender lemon drop martini is a perfect use for it.
  • Apple-Pear-Cinnamon Vodka. This is a fantastic infusion for autumn and can be used in many of your favorite vodka cocktails. It was created for the autumn spiced tonic recipe though you'll quickly find other uses for it as well.
  • Spiced Pumpkin Vodka. When those autumn cravings for all things pumpkin set it, consider making your own pumpkin vodka. It's a great use for the meat after carving the year's jack-o-lanterns.
  • Tomato Vodka. A unique ingredient, tomato vodka is rather interesting. While one popular vodka brand once made it, it is no longer available. However, it did inspire a DIY version, and you can use that to taste the tempting tomojito.
  • Cucumber Vodka. Cucumber vodka is another flavor you might want to take on yourself because it can be hard to find. It's one of the easiest infusions due to the nature of this garden staple and can be ready in just a few days.
  • Kumquat Vodka. Not only do you get kumquat-flavored vodka with this infusion, you also get drunken kumquats to eat! This is a fun one to ease the transition from winter to spring and kumquat pairs perfectly with berries.
  • Bacon Vodka. Bacon vodka is a thing and it can make some fun cocktails. It's not a true infusion, but more of a bacon fat-washed vodka instead. It is a little more involved and the bacon me angry cocktail proves that your efforts were not wasted.

  • Add the split vanilla pods to the vodka. To split a vanilla pod, simply cut down the middle of the pod with the tip of a sharp knife while keeping the pod flat on a clean, non-slip surface.
  • Leave to stand for a minimum of 5 days to a week, although infusing for around 3 to 5 weeks will probably produce the best flavor. You'll note the vodka turning a light shade of golden brown within a half hour of adding the pods and this will darken with infusion over time.
  • Discard the vanilla pods when you're satisfied with the taste level of the infusion. If you wish to remove any sediment from the vanilla pods, pour through a fine sieve or coffee filter into a clean bottle.
  • Serve. Serve as is, or use as part of a cocktail. For one example of using vanilla infused vodka, see How to make a vanilla martini. Or, try vanilla vodka poured over ice and topped up with ginger ale for a creamy drink.
