I've never known anyone to make these outside our family. I don't know why they're called Delta Bars. I do know that they are really good and are a crowd pleaser. I've seen one similar recipe but there are differences and I think this one is better ... of course.

Ingredients

DOUGH:
1/4 c shortening
1 c sugar
1 large egg
1 egg yolk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/4 c self rising flour
TOPPING:
1 egg white
1 c brown sugar, firmly packed
1 c pecans, chopped

Steps:

1. For the dough: Cream shortening and sugar together; add egg, egg yolk and vanilla. Add flour and mix well.
2. Press evenly into a greased 13x9 inch baking pan (dough will spread thin).
3. For the topping: beat egg white until stiff peaks form. Fold in brown sugar. Sprinkle pecans over topping.
4. Bake at 325 degrees for 25-30 minutesw or until dough is done.
5. Cool and cut into squares.

Ingredients

2 cups light brown sugar
¾ cup butter, softened
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 ½ cups baking mix
3 cups quick cooking oats
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
2 tablespoons butter
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped pecans
2 tablespoons vanilla extract

Steps:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9 x 13 inch pan. In a large bowl, combine mix together the brown sugar, 3/4 cup margarine, eggs and 2 teaspoons of vanilla. Stir in baking mix and oats. Set aside.
To Make Filling: Heat chocolate chips, condensed milk, 2 tablespoons margarine or butter and salt in saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth. Remove from heat. Stir in pecans and 2 tablespoons vanilla.
Press about two-thirds of the oatmeal mixture into the bottom of the pan. Spread evenly. Pour chocolate mixture evenly over oatmeal layer. Drop remaining one-third of oatmeal mixture by tablespoons on top of the chocolate mixture. Bake for 30 minutes. Cool completely before cutting into bars.

1/2 c butter
1 c sugar
1 egg + 1 extra yolk
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/4 c flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

Steps:

1. Mic the butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla together until creamy. Then add the sifted ingredients : flour, baking powder, amd the salt. Spread in a 13x9 inch pan. Make the Meringue 1 egg white gradually adding 1 c brown sugar, Beat until glossy, add 1/2 cup nuts and spread over cake.Bake at 375 for 25 minutes
