I saw this being made on sunrise television programme and just had to try it. These are so easy, and make a very nice dessert. I used fresh apples and they turned out fantastic. I dusted the tops with some cing sugar and served with cream, the family loved them.

400 g pie apples
2 tablespoons caster sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed
1 egg, beaten
2 tablespoons strawberry jam
sifted icing sugar, to decorate

Steps:

  • Place apples in a bowl with sugar and cinnamon. Mix well.
  • Cut pastry sheets into quarters.
  • Spoon 2 tablespoons of the apple mixture and 1 teaspoon jam onto one half of each pastry square.
  • Brush each square with a little of the egg around edge of pastry.
  • Fold over pastry to enclose filling, then pinch and fold edges to seal.
  • Place turnovers on oven trays lined with baking paper.
  • Brush tops with remaining egg.
  • Cook in a hot oven (200C) for 20 minutes, or until pastry is golden brown.
  • Sprinkle with some sifted icing sugar if desired.
  • The turnovers are best served warm.

1 (8 ounce) package Pillsbury Refrigerated Crescent Dinner Rolls
1 dash cinnamon
1 dash brown sugar
1 apple, cut into slices

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Peel the apple and cut into slices.
  • unroll the pillsbury cresent rolls.
  • sprinkle each roll with cinnamon and brown sugar.
  • then place one apple slice at the wide end of the crecent roll
  • roll crecent from wide end to small and place on ungreased baking sheet.
  • place in oven and cook for 13 minutes.
  • enjoy!

1 cup apple pie filling
1/4 teaspoon apple pie spice
1 (15 ounce) package refrigerated pie crusts
1 cup sifted powdered sugar
4 teaspoons milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Chop pie filling. Stir apple pie spice into chopped pie filling, if desired; set aside.
  • Unfold piecrust pressing lightly to remove fold lines; cut into 8 4 1/2-inch circles.
  • For each turnover, spoon 2 tablespoons pie filling mixture over half of pastry circle.
  • Moisten edges of circle with water; fold the dough over the filling, pressing edges to seal.
  • Crimp edges with a fork.
  • Place turnovers on a lightly greased baking sheet.
  • Bake at 425°F for 13 to 15 minutes, or until golden.
  • Combine powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla, stirring until smooth; drizzle glaze over warm turnovers.

1/2 cup golden raisin
1 orange, zest of
2 tablespoons orange juice
2 teaspoons flour
1/2 teaspoon garam masala
1/4 teaspoon curry powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons brown sugar
2 sheets puff pastry
1 egg
1 tablespoon water
turbinado sugar, for sprinkling

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Peel and chop the apples into ¼ inch cubes. Mix the apple cubes with the raisins, orange zest, orange juice, flour, garam masala, curry powder, salt and brown sugar.
  • Cut each puff pastry sheet into 9 squares and place them on baking stones or parchment paper-lined cookie sheets. Gently roll out each square into a diamond shape.
  • Top each diamond with a tablespoon of apple mixture.
  • Whisk the egg with 1 tablespoon of water and brush the egg wash over the edges of the diamond. Then fold the dough over the apple mixture and crimp the edges with a fork.
  • Brush the tops with egg wash and sprinkle with Turbinado sugar. Bake for 17-20 minutes until golden brown on top.
  • Serve warm or at room temperature.
