Cubed Steak and Wild Rice image

A very quick, easy, and inexpensive main dish to prepare. You can top this with sour cream before serving, if you'd like. Depending who will dine with me, I add some red pepper flakes for added pizzazz.

2 tablespoons butter
1 pound cube steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 (4.5 ounce) package long grain and wild rice mix
2 cups water
5 fresh mushrooms, sliced
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder

Steps:

  • In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter, and saute the cube steak until evenly browned.
  • In a medium pot, mix the cooked steak and juices, rice, water, mushrooms, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. Bring to boil. Reduce heat to low, and simmer 25 minutes, or until all liquid has been absorbed.

Old Fashioned Beef Cube Steak with Tomato Gravy image

Old Fashioned Cube Steak with Tomato Gravy is an old-timey dish inspired by Mom's roast beef recipe. I'm also paying homage to my Midwestern roots where hearty meals are a staple. A family favorite served with lots of mashed potatoes.

2 pounds cube steak, four pieces
1 large onion, cut into slices
1 large yellow, red, or green pepper, cut into strips
2-3 cloves garlic, minced
1 15oz can stewed tomatoes
1 beef bouillon cube plus one cup water OR 1 cup reduced-sodium beef stock
2 Tablespoons olive oil
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1 teaspoon dried basil
Flour
Salt & Pepper

Steps:

  • Pat dry cube steaks with a paper towel. Sprinkle with salt & pepper on both sides. Dust with flour on both sides.
  • Add 2 Tablespoon olive oil to a 12" heavy-bottomed skillet. Bring to heat over medium-high heat.
  • Add cube steaks to the skillet, two at a time, and brown. As the meat browns, remove to a plate or to the skillet's inverted lid.
  • Once all the meat is browned, reduce skillet heat to medium. Add onion, sliced pepper, crushed red pepper and garlic. Stir and saute for 5 minutes.
  • Add stewed tomatoes, bouillon cube, and water OR beef stock, and dried basil. Bring to simmer and cook for 5-10 minutes until tomatoes are soft.
  • Return cube steaks to the skillet along with accumulated meat juices. Ladle the tomato/vegetable mixture over the meat. Reduce to slow simmer. Cover with lid. Cook for 30 minutes.
  • Remove meat to a platter. (Optional: Mash vegetables and gravy.) Pour tomato gravy over cube steak OR plate individually and ladle tomato gravy over meat.
  • Serve with plenty of mashed potatoes and any green vegetable.

Braised Cubed Steak with Peppers, Onions and Olives is a flavorful, budget-friendly and family friendly dish you can make in the Instant Pot, Slow Cooker or in a pot on the stove.

8 pieces cubed steak (28 oz total)
1 3/4 teaspoons adobo seasoning or garlic salt
1 8 oz can tomato sauce
1 cup water
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1 small red bell pepper (sliced 1/4-inch thin strips)
1/2 medium onion (sliced into 1/4-inch thin strips)
1/3 cup green pitted olives (plus 2 tablespoons of brine)

Steps:

  • Season beef with adobo or garlic salt.
  • Add the onions and peppers to the instant pot. Pour tomato sauce and water over everything and add the olives along with some of the brine (liquid from the jar). Add the beef, cumin and bay leaf.
  • Cover and cook high pressure 25 minutes. Natural release then press saute and simmer until it thickens, 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Cook 8 hours on low.
  • Add a little oil to a large deep skillet and saute the onions and peppers with a pinch of salt, 2 to 3 minutes. Add the tomato sauce, 1 can of water, olives, brine, cumin and stir then add the beef and bay leaf.
  • Cook over low heat for 1 hour, covered until the beef is tender. Uncover, then remove the lid and let it simmer over medium-low until it thickens to your liking.

This Cuban Cube Steak is quick, easy and super flavorful.

Number Of Ingredients 8

4 Cube Steaks (about 1¼ pound)
1 teaspoon Salt
1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
½ teaspoon Dried Oregano
¼ teaspoon Cumin Powder
¼ teaspoon Black Pepper
2 tablespoon Oil (use an oil with a high smoke point (we used canola oil))
1 Medium Yellow Onion (sliced thin)

Steps:

  • Season the steak with salt, garlic powder, dried oregano, cumin and black pepper.
  • Heat the oil in a large, skillet over medium-high heat. When the oil is hot add the cube steak to the skillet. Cook the steaks about 3-5 minutes on each side, depending on the thickness. Make sure the steak is browned on the outside, and then continue cooking to the desired doneness.
  • Remove the skillet from the heat, place the steaks on a plate or pan. Keep the steaks warm by covering loosely with aluminum foil, or place them in the microwave or oven to keep away from drafts.
  • Do not wash the skillet.
  • Immediately add the sliced onions, place the skillet back over low to medium-low heat. There should be enough residual heat in the skillet to cook the onions. Stir frequently and cook until they start to soften.
  • Serve the Cuban Cube Steak with white rice, red or black beans and tostones, if desired.

1 cup rice, uncooked
1 can beef broth
1 can consomme
1 cup water

Steps:

  • Brown and season steak.
  • Place in casserole dish.
  • Pour rice over steak.
  • Mix broth, consomme and water.
  • Pour over steak and rice.
  • Cover; cook about 1 hour at 400 degrees.
  • Serve Hot.

4 cube steak patties
1 medium sweet onion, sliced
1 c carrots, chopped
1 c celery, finely chopped
3 clove garlic, very finely chopped or crushed
2 bay leaves
olive oil
SAUCE
1 15 oz can, diced tomatoes w/oregano, basil and garlic, no salt added
1 c beef stock, homemade/low sodium
2 c mushrooms, sliced
1 tsp balasamic vinegar
1 tsp ea. cumin, garlic pwd, onion pwd, black pepper
1 tsp worcestershire sauce
long grain or brown rice or noodles

Steps:

  • 1. Season cube steak with garlic pwd, onion pwd, black pepper, then lightly flour, the set aside.
  • 2. In a deep skillet or a pot, add about 1/4 c. of olive oil, carrots, celery, onions, and garlic. Simmer, stirring often until tender. Move veggies to the side, add a little more olive oil if necessary, add cube steak and brown on each side.
  • 3. Once meat is brown, add tomatoes, beef stock, cumin, garlic pwd., onion pwd, pepper, balsamic vinegar, worschestshire sauce,two bay leaves and salt. Cover and simmer for about 30. Add mushrooms, cover and simmer thirty minutes more. Turn meat half way through.
  • 4. Serve over hot rice or buttered pasta

1 lb beef round cube steak

garlic powder
1/2 cup flour
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
1 package brown gravy mix
1 can cream of mushroom soup
2 (4 ounce) cans mushrooms
1 cup long grain white rice
1 1/2 cups beef broth

Steps:

  • Cut cube steaks into serving size portions.
  • Season to taste with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  • Lightly coat steaks with flour.
  • Prepare brown gravy in small saucepan according to package directions.
  • Reserve.
  • Heat oil in large heavy skillet.
  • Add onions and saute about 1 min.
  • Add steak and brown on both sides.
  • Add mushroom soup.
  • Add water to soup can (about 1/2 can) and swish to remove soup.
  • Add to skillet with meat mixture.
  • Add brown gravy mixture and stir to blend.
  • Bring to boil, cover, lower heat and simmer about 45 mins or until meat is tender and you can cut it with edge of fork.
  • Add mushrooms, stir to heat and serve over rice.
  • TO PREPARE RICE: Rinse rice in strainer.
  • Place rice in saucepan, add broth.
  • Liquid should reach first knuckle on your finger.
  • Bring to boil, stir, cover, lower heat to simmer and cook about 15 mins.
  • Fluff with fork.
