I have had this recipe for about 40 years, and in that time I've made a few changes. These cookies are my husband's favorite, so I bake them for him almost every week. - In a large bowl, cream butter, shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg, milk and extracts. Combine the flour, salt and baking soda; gradually add to creamed mixture. , Shape into 1-in. balls or drop by rounded teaspoonfuls 2 in. apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Flatten with a glass dipped in sugar. , Bake at 400° for 9-11 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Immediately remove to wire racks to cool.

- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, and lemon zest. In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg, vanilla, and lemon juice and beat until combined. With mixer on low, beat in flour mixture.
- Drop dough by heaping tablespoons, 1 inch apart, onto two baking sheets. Bake until edges are golden, 15 to 20 minutes, rotating sheets halfway through. Let cool 2 minutes on sheets, then transfer cookies to a wire rack to cool completely. Spread cookies with Lemon Glaze and let set, about 1 hour.

- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Beat butter and sugar in a large bowl with electric mixer on high speed until fluffy. Beat in remaining ingredients except flour until well blended.

OLD FASHIONED CRUNCHY GINGERSNAP COOKIES RECIPE
Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
- Add the shortening, one-cup sugar, salt, and baking soda to the bowl of an electric mixer and mix until smooth and creamy.
- Add the egg, mix until well incorporated. Add the molasses, and again mix until well incorporated.
- Add the flour, one teaspoon cinnamon and the rest of the spices to the dough and mix until well incorporated. Set aside.
- Add one teaspoon cinnamon and 1/4 cup of sugar to a shallow bowl or pie plate and mix well.
- Use a 1-inch ice-cream scoop or a spoon to make 1-inch dough balls. Drop the dough balls into the sugar-cinnamon mixture and roll around until the balls are coated.
