2 tablespoons dried basil
½ cup vegetable oil

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Cut bread into small cubes and place onto a shallow baking pan or cookie sheet.
  • Drizzle oil over the bread to lightly cover and sprinkle with garlic powder and basil.
  • Bake at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) for 5 to 10 minutes or until lightly brown and toasted.

1/8 teaspoon ground mustard

Steps:

  • Place bread in a large bowl. Combine the remaining ingredients; drizzle over bread and toss to coat., Place in a single layer in an ungreased 15x10x1-in. baking pan. Bake at 400° for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown, stirring occasionally. Cool. Store in an airtight container.

3 potato hamburger buns (or other bread) or 3 hot dog buns (or other bread)
3 -6 tablespoons olive oil or 3 -6 tablespoons canola oil
1/2 tablespoon Lawry's Seasoned Salt

Steps:

  • Cut buns into bite size pieces.
  • You can also use bread, which can be fresh or 'day-old'.
  • Place pieces in a bowl and drizzle oil over as you stir to coat.
  • Feel free to use more or less oil than is called for.
  • The more oil you use, the more melt-in-your-mouth they will be.
  • Sprinkle with seasoning salt.
  • You can also use garlic powder, oregano, Italian seasoning or any combination of them.
  • Bake at 350°F for about 15 minutes, stirring once.

My husband thought these were a snack I made for him to munch on while he watched TV, they were gone so quick I didn't have time to put them on a salad or a bowl of soup! These would also be great if you sliced the bread, you would need to adjust the baking time.

1 French baguette, stale, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
1/3 cup butter, I used Smart Balance
1/3 cup olive oil
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1/2 teaspoon dried tarragon
1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
1 teaspoon course ground pepper
1 teaspoon course granulated garlic

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 200.
  • Place cubed bread in big mixing bowl.
  • Melt butter in small sauce pan. Add olive oil, stir, remove from heat.
  • Add in all the spices, salt and pepper.
  • Drizzle half over bread, toss to coat. Add second half to desired amout of flavor(for stronger flavor add all, for light flavor only use half), toss again to coat well.
  • Spread evenly in single layer on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake for a about 2 hours to get all the moisture out.
  • Turn oven up to 300 let cook for 15 minute and mix them up and cook for about 15 min longer or until nice and toasted. Cool on paper towel then store in an airtight container.

Use a sturdy white bread like sourdough or an Italian pugliese and add your own favorite seasonings, herbs or spices-garlic and herb is my favorite-and you'll find yourself making these bread bites all of the time, too.

4 cups bread cubes (cut into 3/4 inch squares from a sturdy bread like sourdough)
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
3 garlic cloves (thinly sliced)
2 tablespoons Italian parsley (minced)
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375° F.
  • Place the bread cubes in a large bowl and set aside. Heat the olive oil and garlic in a small saucepan over medium heat until the garlic begins to turn golden and becomes fragrant, about 4-5 minutes. Be careful the garlic doesn't burn or it will taste bitter. Strain or pick the garlic cloves out of the oil and discard or save for another use.
  • Drizzle the oil over the bread cubes and toss to coat. Scatter onto a rimmed baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes or until the bread cubes are golden, flipping the cubes occasionally. Remove from the oven and add back to the bowl. Toss with the parsley and salt and pepper and set aside to cool. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Remove crusts from stale bread slices. Brush bread on both sides with melted butter. Cut bread slices up into small cubes. Sprinkle with garlic salt (if desired). Arrange cubes on an ungreased cookie sheet.
