1 cup steel cut oats
1 cup dried cranberries
1 cup dried figs
4 cups water
1/2 cup half-and-half

Steps:

  • In a slow cooker, combine all ingredients and set to low heat. Cover and let cook for 8 to 9 hours.
  • Stir and remove to serving bowls. This method works best if started before you go to bed. This way your oatmeal will be finished by morning.

1 cup steel cut oats (DO NOT substitute old-fashioned or quick-cooking oats)
4 1/2 cups water
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 -3 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup dried fruit (raisins, prunes, apricots, dates) (optional)
milk, to taste
sugar, to taste
cinnamon, to taste
maple syrup, to taste

Steps:

  • Place all ingredients in a 2 quart slow cooker. (If you want to make a smaller amount please use a smaller crock pot or crockette. This won't work in a 6 quart cooker).
  • Cover and cook on LOW 6-8 hours.
  • It might form a "crust" around the outside. Just scrape it down with a spoon and stir.

  • Spray the inside of your crockpot with non-stick cooking spray. Add the oatmeal, water, milk, brown sugar and cinnamon to the Crockpot. Cover and set on low. Cook at least 6 hours, up to 12 hours. Temperatures on slow cookers vary. If you have a newer model of slow cooker the higher temperature may cook faster. Check the oatmeal after 5 hours and adjust the time as needed. You can add more water and set your crockpot on warm (after cooking on low) to keep the oatmeal warm. About one hour before serving, add the diced apples and stir. Cook for about one more hour. To serve, drizzle with honey, and garnish with more chopped apples.

1 c irish or steel cut oats
4 c water, may use cider or other juice of choice
2 Tbsp amber agave nectar
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon or pumpkin pie/apple pie spice
1/2 c pumpkin, canned or cooked/ dried fruit of your choice /sliced apples or other fruit. can use any combination or no fruit at all.

Steps:

  • 1. Spray the inside of your crockpot with cooking oil spray.
  • 2. Mix all ingredients in your crockpot, you can adjust the liquid or fruits to your preference. You can also adjust the flavors of spices or amounts of sweetener. I prefer it not to be very sweet.
  • 3. Cover and cook on low for 7-8 hours. Stir and enjoy. You can add fresh fruit when the oatmeal is done and omit it from the cooked recipe. I like to make a batch up plain and change the fruits during the week for variety. You can use any add in, peanut butter and chocolate chips are good too. The main measurements to remember is 1 cup oats to 4 cups liquid.

2/3 cup packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 cup sliced almonds
1 cup flaked coconut
2 cups golden raisins
1 cup whole milk
1/4 cup heavy cream
1 cup fresh blueberries
Honey, for drizzling

Steps:

  • Place the frozen peaches, oats, brown sugar, vanilla, salt and 8 cups water in the bowl of a slow cooker. Stir, set to low and cook for 6 to 8 hours or up to overnight.
  • Meanwhile, toast the sliced almonds and flaked coconut separately in dry nonstick skillets over medium heat, shaking the pans frequently to ensure an even toast, until golden and fragrant, 3 to 4 minutes. Let cool. Store, covered, until serving.
  • To serve, stir the raisins, milk and cream into the oat mixture. Spoon into bowls and garnish with the almonds, coconut, blueberries and a drizzle of honey.
