- Mix paprika, pepper, salt, brown sugar, chili powder, and cumin together in a bowl; rub evenly over the surface of the brisket. Put brisket in a large, resealable plastic bag; refrigerate 30 minutes to overnight.
- Stir barbeque sauce, water, Worcestershire sauce, and liquid smoke together in the bottom of a slow cooker. Lay brisket into the sauce mixture. Arrange onions atop the brisket.

- If you have a removable stove top slow cooker insert, heat the insert over medium high heat. Add 3 tablespoons vegetable oil. When oil is hot, sear brisket on both sides until browned.
- Remove to a plate and add sliced onions. Cook onions for about 3 minutes, stirring often. Add brisket back into the pot and nestle on top of onions.
- Pour the bbq sauce over the brisket. Pour in cola. Use just enough to come up halfway on the brisket.
- Slow cook 8 hours or until brisket is fork tender.
- When the meat is done, remove to a large cutting board and slice against the grain, then shred.
- Keep the shredded meat moist and flavorful by adding about a cup of the cooking liquid. This will also serve as some gravy for the mashed potatoes.
- Serve over mashed potatoes or as a sandwich on a Kaiser bun or as sliders on slider buns.

- Spray 6-quart slow cooker with cooking spray. Rub brisket with 1 tablespoon of the vegetable oil. Rub with salt and pepper. Heat 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Cook brisket in skillet 2 minutes on fattiest side, then turn and cook 2 to 3 minutes on other side, until browned. Transfer to slow cooker.
- Reduce heat to medium; add remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil to skillet. Add onions; cook 5 to 8 minutes, stirring frequently, until beginning to brown. Add carrots and garlic; cook 1 minute. Stir in tomatoes and broth; heat just to simmering. Pour mixture over brisket in slow cooker. Cover and cook on Low heat setting 7 to 8 hours or until brisket is very tender.
- Transfer brisket to cutting board; cool slightly, cut into slices, and serve with vegetables and cooking juices.

CROCKPOT COCA-COLA BRISKET
Steps:
- Heat oil in a large pan and sear brisket on both sides, then remove.
- Add onion to the pan and cook until softened.
- Stir up the sauce ingredients and place some in the bottom of the crock, topping with the beef.
- If it doesn't fit (I used a large oval and it just fit) then cut it into sections to fit.
- Top with the onions and remaining sauce.
- Cover and cook on low for 6 hours or until it is fork tender.
- Allow brisket to rest (I chill mine overnight and reheat the next day as it both slices and tastes better).
- Thicken sauce with a cornstarch slurry if you like to use as a gravy for noodles or potatoes.
- Slice the beef at a 45 degree angle across the grain (this means the long strings in the meat will be cut very short).

- In a bowl, combine the cola, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, garlic, beef bouillon granules, dry mustard powder, chili powder, and cayenne pepper. Mix well to combine. Set aside 1/2 cup of the mixture for the sauce. Place the onions in the bottom of the crock pot. Cut the meat to fit the crock pot if necessary and place the meat on top of the onions. Pour the cola mixture over the meat. Cover and cook on low heat for 10 hours or on high heat for 5 hours, or until the meat is tender (cook time may vary by crock pot).
