SLOW-COOKER MAPLE-SAUCED PEARS

Slow-Cooker Maple-Sauced Pears image

Create a pear dessert in your slow cooker that can't compare. Slow cooked pears in a buttery maple sauce are a showstopper!

Provided by By Betty Crocker Kitchens

Categories     Dessert

Time 2h50m

Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 8

6 pears
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup maple-flavored syrup
1 tablespoon butter or margarine, melted
1 teaspoon orange peel
1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons orange juice

Steps:

  • Peel pears. Core pears from bottom, leaving stems attached. Place pears upright in 3 1/2- to 5-quart slow cooker.
  • Mix remaining ingredients except cornstarch and orange juice; pour over pears.
  • Cover and cook on high heat setting 2 to 2 1/2 hours or until tender.
  • Remove pears from cooker; place upright in serving dish or individual dessert dishes.
  • Mix cornstarch and orange juice; stir into sauce in cooker. Cover and cook on high heat setting about 10 minutes or until sauce is thickened. Spoon sauce over pears. Note: This recipe was tested in slow cookers with heating elements in the side and bottom of the cooker, not in cookers that stand only on a heated base. For slow cookers with just a heated base, follow the manufacturer's directions for layering ingredients and choosing a temperature.

SPICED RED PEARS IN WINE (CROCK POT)

Spiced Red Pears in Wine (Crock Pot) image

This is one I'm considering for the holidays. It is originally from "125 Best Vegetarian Crock pot Recipes). The original says this is best in a 3 1/2 quart crock pot because that allows the pears to be submerged. This is served cold so it needs time to chill. Depending on the size of your pears you might need more wine.

Provided by ladypit

Categories     Dessert

Time 16h15m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

8 medium pears or 6 large pears
2 cups dry red wine
1/2 cup sugar
1 cinnamon stick
4 cloves
1 orange

Steps:

  • Peel and core your pears. Then cut in half lengthwise. Put them in your crock pot.
  • Add the wine (making sure your pears are covered), the sugar, cinnamon stick, and cloves.
  • Zest the orange and put all the zest in your crock pot.
  • Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or until the pears are tender.
  • Chill really well.

CROCK POT POACHED PEARS

Crock Pot Poached Pears image

This simple recipe for Crock Pot Poached Pears is the perfect way to serve a light, healthy, budget friendly and delicious dessert following a hearty family dinner like Instant Pot Vegetarian Chili.

Provided by Tiffany

Categories     Dessert

Time 2h15m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 4

4 large (or 8 small) pears, any variety, skin peeled, bottom cut flat (so pears will stand up straight when served), and with stems on (this looks pretty but also makes them much easier to handle with tongs)
1 cup apple juice
2 cinnamon sticks
1/4 cup chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • Pour juice into the bottom of the Crock Pot.
  • Lay pears on their sides in the juice, then add cinnamon sticks.
  • Cover and cook on high for an hour or on low for two hours, opening the lid halfway through cooking to turn pears to their other side.
  • Use tongs to transfer pears to plates.
  • Pour juice through a fine mesh sieve into a saucepan. Add cinnamon sticks and bring to a boil over medium high heat. Boil the pear juice for about 15 minutes, or until you have reduced the volume by about 1/3 to a thin syrup consistency. (I dipped a clean toothpick in before boiling, noting how high the juice came up on the pick. As the mixture boiled down, I would insert another clean toothpick and compare the height of the boiled juice to the original pick)
  • Remove the reduced pear syrup from the heat and stir in the walnuts.
  • To serve, place pears on plates (1/2 of a large pear or 1 whole small pear), then ladle syrup and walnuts over them.

SLOW COOKER PEAR CIDER

Slow Cooker Pear Cider image

This pear cider is great on it's own piping hot, but when you add a bit of spiced rum or bourbon it makes a pretty spectacular cool weather cocktail!

Provided by This Mess is Ours

Time 8h20m

Number Of Ingredients 9

8 medium pears, assorted types ( I used Red Anjou, Bartlett, & Bosc)
1 orange, peel and pith removed
3 cinnamon sticks
2 star anise
2-3 slices of fresh ginger
1 whole nutmeg
2 teaspoons whole cloves
6 cups filtered water
1/3 cup maple syrup

Steps:

  • Cut the pears and orange into quarters. Seeds, peels and stems are OK. Place the fruit in the bottom of your slow cooker Add the cinnamon sticks, star anise, ginger slices, nutmeg and cloves.
  • Fill to the top of the slow cooker with water, leaving about an 1/4-1/2-inch of space at the top. Cook on high heat for 3-4 hours or on low heat for 6-8 hours.
  • An hour before the cider is done cooking, use a potato masher to mash the fruit once it is softened. Cook for an additional hour.
  • Strain the pear cider through a fine-mesh strainer or cheese cloth into a clean pitcher or pot, pressing on the solids to get all of the juice out of the fruit. Stir in the maple syrup until it is dissolved and serve hot.
  • The cider can be stored in a heat-safe container for up to 5 days.

PEAR PRESERVES RECIPE

Pear Preserves Recipe image

This easy pear preserves recipe is made with fresh pears, brown sugar and lemon juice. 3 simple ingredients create a delicious jam right in your slow cooker with barely any hands on work. It's a dump-and-go slow cooker recipe- you don't even need to peel the pears! Use your homemade pear preserves on toast, croissants, biscuits, bagels or add to other recipes.

Provided by Kristina

Categories     Breakfast     Sauce

Time 10h5m

Number Of Ingredients 4

3 lbs pears (cored and sliced)
1/3 cup water
2 tbsp lemon juice
3 tbsp brown sugar

Steps:

  • Combine pears, water, lemon juice, and brown sugar in the slow cooker. Set to high for 4 hours.
  • When 4 hours has passed, blend the pear mixture with an immersion blender or mash until mostly smooth. Set to low for another 6 to 8 hours. The time will depend on how ripe the pears were initially. For overripe pears, 6 hours is plenty of time. Less ripe pears will likely take the full 8 hours.
  • Stir and transfer to a mason jar or airtight container. Store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
