Slow Cooker Baby Back Ribs image

These are the best I've had, short of the actual grilling method of course! This is a very simple recipe that I came up with a few years ago. It's not rocket science, just ribs cooked in the slow cooker and finished in the oven. This is what I do when I want ribs during the week and have to work all day. I'm eating them within a half-hour of getting home, and they turn out perfect every time!

BBQ CROCK POT RIBS

BBQ Crock Pot Ribs image

BBQ Crockpot Ribs is an easy and delicious recipe that creates fabulous barbecued taste in the slow cooker.

Provided by Leah Maroney

Categories     Entree

Time 8h20m

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 rack spare ribs
For the rub:
1 ½ tablespoons paprika
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons onions powder
1 teaspoon cumin
½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 tablespoons salt
2 teaspoons ground black pepper
½ cup apple cider
1 teaspoon liquid smoke
½ cup barbecue sauce

Steps:

  • Gather your ingredients.
  • Trim the rack of ribs. Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs using a butter knife to wedge between the membrane and bone. If you don't remove this, the ribs will not be able to fall off the bone. Combine the rub ingredients and coat both sides of the ribs with the rub.
  • Add the ribs to a 4 quart or larger crock pot insert. Place the ribs around the edge of the slow cooker, leaving an opening in the center. Pour the apple cider and liquid smoke into the opening. Place the insert in the crockpot and cook, covered on high for 4 hours or on low for 8 hours.
  • Carefully remove the ribs from the crockpot when they have reached the internal temperature of 165F. Place the ribs on a parchment lined baking sheet. Set your oven to broil and place the rack in the upper (but not too high!) part of the oven.
  • Brush the top of the ribs with the barbecue sauce. Place the ribs under your broiler for about 5 minutes or until the sauce has caramelized.
  • Allow the ribs to rest for 5 minutes and then cut and serve. Serve with more barbecue sauce if desired.

CROCK POT RIBS RECIPE

Crock Pot Ribs Recipe image

Crock Pot Ribs are an easy way to make the most delicious ribs for any occasion. This slow cooker ribs recipe is so simple! You can cook these crock pot BBQ ribs stress-free, and they'll come out super tender and flavorful.

Provided by Becky Hardin - The Cookie Rookie

Categories     Appetizer/Main Course

Time 4h10m

Number Of Ingredients 8

3 tablespoons smoked paprika or paprika
3 tablespoons packed light brown sugar
1 tablespoon kosher salt
1 tablespoon ground black pepper
½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
6 pounds St. Louis-style pork spareribs or Baby Back ribs (see note)
1 24 ounce jar Barbecue Sauce (Blue's Hog original is superb)
¼ cup cider vinegar (if the barbecue sauce is on the sweet side)

Steps:

  • Set the slow cooker to LOW and spray with nonstick cooking spray. (I always spray the underside of the lid to help with cleanup.)
  • Remove the silver membrane from the back of the ribs. Here's a video with instructions. (You might have bought ribs with the membrane removed, and if so, skip this step.)
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the paprika, brown sugar, salt, black pepper and red pepper flakes. Rub the dry-rub mix evenly over the ribs.
  • Brush both sides of the rib with barbecue sauce and set the ribs in the slow cooker standing upright with the meaty side against the inside wall, of the slow cooker.
  • Pour the remaining barbecue sauce over the ribs. If using a sweet sauce, pour the cider vinegar over the ribs.
  • Cover and cook on LOW 5-6 hours or until the meat is fork-tender.
  • Serve with additional store-bought barbecue sauce or strain the juices, from the pan, through a fine-mesh strainer into a medium saucepan.
  • Bring the sauce to a boil, reduce the heat to low and simmer 15-20 minutes or until the mixture has reduced to 2 cups.
  • To serve, slice the meat between the bones and serve with barbecue sauce.
  • Enjoy!

THE SECRET TO CROCKPOT RIBS (SLOW COOKER)

The Secret to Crockpot Ribs (Slow Cooker) image

Crockpot ribs are guaranteed to be fall off the bone tender. Learn the secrets for making the best slow cooker ribs including instructions for prepping the meat, giving it a good dry rub, and finishing them off for restaurant quality perfection.

Provided by Rachel Farnsworth

Categories     Main Dish

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 racks baby back ribs (or pork spare ribs)
2 cups barbecue sauce
1 tablespoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon ground mustard

Steps:

  • Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs. Just slide your fingers around the side to loosen it up and rip it right off.
  • In a small bowl, stir together the ingredients for the dry rub. Rub this mixture generously over the outside of the ribs to coat.
  • Put your ribs in the crockpot. Drizzle on 1 1/2 cups of barbecue sauce, reserving 1/2 cup for later.
  • Cook on low for 8 to 10 hours. The more racks in the pot, the longer you'll need to cook.
  • Gently remove the racks and lay them out on a foil lined baking sheet. Add the reserved barbecue sauce on top.
  • Broil under a broiler for 3-5 minutes until the barbecue sauce starts to bubble and caramelize. Alternately you could wrap them in foil and throw them on a heated grill for the same effect.

  • In a small bowl, stir together brown sugar, chili powder, salt, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Set aside.
  • Prepare the ribs by removing the shiny, thin membrane that covers most of the backside of the ribs. To do so, use a knife or fingernail to pry up a corner of the thin membrane from one edge of the ribs. Grab that with a paper towel (for grip) and slowly pull it up. Once a good portion of the membrane is free, you should be able to pull the rest off in one quick motion.
  • Pat the ribs dry and rub the seasoning mixture onto both sides of the ribs. Place ribs in slow cooker.
