SLOW COOKER APPLE CIDER
Steps:
- Add all the ingredients to a slow cooker.
- Cover with lid and cook on low for 8-10 hours (overnight is perfect) or on high for 3-4.
- After everything is cooked and the apples are soft, mash with a potato masher until everything is nice and mushy.
- Place a regular-sized strainer into a large pot and carefully pour the contents of the slow cooker through it. You can smoosh extra juice through with a spoon or the potato masher. This will separate most of the solids from the liquid.
- Then, pour the contents in the pot back into the slow cooker through a fine strainer. This will catch any bits and pieces that may have snuck through.
- Keep on warm and serve!

Steps:
- 1. Wash apples to remove any dirt/chemicals etc. Cut apples into 4 parts (original recipe said that you can keep seeds in it and others say to remove, you can decide which you prefer). Put into crock pot. Add spices and cover apples with water, do not have to be completely submerged as apples will cook down. Mix everything around to blend ingredients. Cook for 8-10 hours on low for stronger flavor, stirring it occasionally. Or you can cook it on high for 4-5 hours stirring it every hour. Mash with potato masher. Strain out cider. Now this is where you have options. I have heard everything from straining it through a cotton pillowcase, straining it through a colander a couple times, or even a mesh strainer. One author said they liked the bits of apple in their cider another said they wanted it all removed. So strain to your preference. Bottle.
- 2. Now as for the spices in the ingredient list I have found cider recipes cooked with honey, oranges and lemons so you can add those too if you wish. I plan to add some citrus honey to mine. As for the Hard Cider you can add rum if you like, or you can put it in a demijohn with some beer yeast and let ferment for about a month for one batch and two weeks for another for a weaker alcohol content.

- Add the water to the crock pot making sure to leave about 1/2 inch of space at the top of the pot. Cook on high heat for 3-4 hours or on low heat for 6-8 hours.
- An hour before the cider is done cooking, use a potato masher to mash the fruit. Cook for another hour.
- Strain the cider through a fine-mesh strainer or cheese cloth into a clean pitcher or pot. Stir in the maple syrup or your alternative sweetener until it is dissolved and serve hot or wait for it to cool and add ice.

- Add the juices to your slow cooker, along with the sliced orange, fresh cranberries, cinnamon sticks and mulling spices. Stir everything together well and turn your slow cooker to low. Let the cider simmer away in the slow cooker for about 4-5 hours.
- After 4-5 hours, remove the orange slices, cranberries and cinnamon sticks with a sieve or slotted spoon and add the sliced apple, and the new fresh cranberries, sliced orange and cinnamon sticks (the old ones will have flavoured the cider beautifully but they'll look awful after simmering in the juice all day. Feel free to skip the garnishes if you're not worried about presentation!)

- Pour apple cider into a 3 1/2 quart crock pot. Add 4 or 5 cinnamon sticks. Punch holes in the orange with a toothpick and stick in whole cloves. You can add as many or few as you like. I usually just make several rings around the orange with the cloves.
- Place the orange into the crock pot. Heat on low for about 4 or 5 hours. Remove orange and cinnamon sticks before serving. If using rum or bourbon just have guests add to their cup or glass how much they like and then add the mulled cider along with a cinnamon stick.
- Makes 8 cups. This will keep for several days in the refrigerator and can be reheated in the microwave when you want to enjoy a cup. Your house will smell wonderful when this recipe is simmering in the crock pot.
