Honey Lemon Chicken image

Succulent chicken with a lip smacking honey-lemon sauce. Dinner in a snap - 5 minutes prep, 4 minutes to cook the chicken, 3 minutes for the sauce = 12 minute dinner! Dusting the chicken in flour makes the skin slightly crispy which makes the sauce cling to it. Recipe VIDEO below!

1 lb / 500g chicken breast (2 pieces)
Salt and pepper
1/4 cup / 35 g flour (any)
1 1/2 tbsp butter
1 tbsp olive oil
1 garlic clove, minced
3/4 cup / 185 ml chicken broth / stock
1/4 cup / 85g honey
1/4 cup / 60 ml lemon juice (fresh)
1 tsp soy sauce
2 tbsp water
Lemon slices
Finely chopped parsley

Steps:

  • Slice each chicken breast horizontally to form 4 steaks in total. OPTIONAL (for more even cooking): Pound to even thickness about 1cm/ 2/5" thick.
  • Sprinkle each side generously with salt and pepper.
  • Place flour in shallow dish. Coat the chicken in the flour, shaking off excess.
  • Mix 1 tsp of the flour (reserved from step 3) with the water. Set aside.

Number Of Ingredients 18

500grams boneless, skinless chicken
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/2 teaspoon of pepper
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
85g plain flour
2 tablespoons corn flour
oil (for frying) + 1 tablespoon sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon grated lemon rind
80ml fresh lemon juice
1 spring onion chopped
2 lemon segments
1/2 tablespoon corn flour
60ml hoi sin sauce with five spice (Sharwoods)
Dash cayenne pepper
2 tablespoons sugar
Salt and Pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Cut your chicken into 2 inch pieces and put them into a large bowl.
  • Add in the egg, salt, pepper and oil. Mix it well and set aside.
  • In another large bowl, stir in the corn flour and plain flour plus one teaspoon of salt and pepper
  • And mix it well set aside.
  • Add the chicken into the flour mix and coat each piece generously.
  • Pour about a 1/2 inch of oil plus the sesame oil into a Wok and set it over high heat.
  • When the temperature is 375 degrees,
  • Carefully put some chicken pieces in small batches and fry for 4 minutes
  • Carefully remove the chicken from the oil with a slotted spoon and drain it on paper towels,
  • Finish frying the chicken until they're all done.
  • Set aside keep warm and put together your glaze in the next step.
  • Method Glaze:
  • Let your oil cool slightly in the wok
  • Remove all but 2 tablespoons of oil and put it over medium heat.
  • Saute the minced garlic for a minute, being careful not to burn it
  • Add the rest of the ingredients in and bring the mixture to a boil.
  • Add 1/2 tablespoon corn flour mixed with a little cold water
  • Make sure to stir this for 3 minutes
  • Reduce the heat and simmer it until a saucy thick glaze is created.
  • Pour the glaze over the chicken and serve!
  • Scatter the Spring onion and lemon segments

1 pound chicken thighs cut into 1 inch chunks
1/3 cup cornstarch
1/2 cup canola oil
3 cloves garlic minced
1 tablespoon ginger minced
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1/2 cup honey
zest of one large lemon
1/2 lemon (juiced)
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon cornstarch
green onions
sesame seeds
lemon zest

Steps:

  • In a large bowl or ziplock bag, toss the chicken thighs with the cornstarch well so every piece is covered in cornstarch. Set aside.
  • Add all the "Sauce" ingredients to a bowl and whisk together to combine. Set aside.
  • Add the vegetable oil to a large pan on medium-high heat.
  • Once the oil is hot, add the chicken and fry on medium-high heat until crispy and golden.
  • Remove chicken from the pan, save one tablespoon of oil and discard the rest.
  • Add garlic, ginger and red pepper flakes to the pan and cook on low heat for about 30 seconds, until you smell the garlic. Stir continuously and be careful as the garlic and red pepper flakes can burn quickly.
  • Add in the chicken back to the pan and toss.
  • Give the sauce in the bowl a quick stir and add it to the pan.
  • Stir to coat well the chicken for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, until sauce has thickened.
  • Garnish with chopped green onions, sesame seeds and fresh lemon zest.
  • Serve immediately with rice.

1/4 cup cornstarch plus 1/4 cup all-purpose flour, sifted and combine well
oil, for deep-frying
1/2 teaspoon white sesame
1/2 tablespoon soy sauce
1/2 tablespoon Shaoxing wine (optional)
1 tablespoon corn starch
3 tablespoons lemon juice
1 tablespoon sugar or more to taste
5 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon corn starch
1 pinch salt or to taste

Steps:

  • Marinate the chicken with the Marinade, for 30 minutes. Mix all the ingredients for the Sauce. Set aside.
  • Coat the marinated chicken with the corn starch and all-purpose flour mixture. Heat up a wok with about two inches of oil. As soon as the oil is fully heated, deep-fry the chicken until golden brown. Transfer the chicken out to a dish lined with paper towels to sock up the excess oil.
  • Add all the ingredients in the Sauce into a small sauce pan and bring it to a quick boil. Transfer the fried chicken into the sauce, stir to coat well with the lemon sauce.
  • Dish out, top with the white sesame, and serve immediately.

1/4 cup olive oil + 3 tablespoons
3 tablespoons honey + more for dripping/drizzling
the juice of 2 large lemons
1 tablespoon fresh lemon zest + 2 teaspoons
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 cup all-purpose (or whole wheat) flour
2 tablespoons cornstarch

Steps:

  • In a bowl, combine 1/4 cup olive oil, 3 tablespoons honey, lemon juice, 1 tablespoon lemon zest, and a 1/4 teaspoon each of salt and pepper. Whisk ingredients together, then add chicken pieces to a ziplock bag and pour marinade over top. Let sit for 30 minutes - 2 hours. When ready to make, add flour, cornstarch, 1 teaspoon lemon zest and the remaining salt and pepper to a large bowl. Mix well. Heat a large skillet on medium-high heat, and once it is very hot, add 1 tablespoons of olive oil. Coat chicken pieces in the flour mixture, then add to the skillet and cook until each side is golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove and set chicken on a paper-towel covered plate. Cook remaining batches, adding more/less oil if needed. I used 3 tablespoons, but depending on how coated your chicken pieces are you may need a bit more. Serve with rice and a few tablespoons of honey mixed with lemon zest for dipping.
