CRISPY HONEY-GLAZED FRIED CHICKEN RECIPE BY TASTY

Crispy Honey-Glazed Fried Chicken Recipe by Tasty image

Here's what you need: salt, black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, ground cumin, dried oregano, cayenne powder, all-purpose flour, bone-in, skin-on chicken drumsticks, bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs, buttermilk, peanut or vegetable oil, honey

Provided by Alvin Zhou

Categories     Dinner

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 14

2 tablespoons salt
3 tablespoons black pepper
2 tablespoons onion powder
2 tablespoons garlic powder
3 tablespoons paprika
2 tablespoons ground cumin
2 tablespoons dried oregano
2 teaspoons cayenne powder
3 cups all-purpose flour
4 bone-in, skin-on chicken drumsticks
4 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs
3 cups buttermilk
peanut or vegetable oil, for frying
honey, for serving

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, add the salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, cumin, oregano, and cayenne and mix until combined. In a another medium bowl, combine half of the spice mix with the flour, mixing until the spices are evenly distributed.
  • Add the chicken to a large bowl and sprinkle with the remaining spice blend. Mix until all the chicken pieces are evenly coated.
  • Pour the buttermilk over the chicken and stir until the residual spices from the chicken have blended in with the buttermilk to create a light orange color. Marinate the chicken in the fridge for 2 hours, or overnight.
  • Heat the oil to about 325°F (160°C) in a large cast-iron skillet.
  • Dredge each piece of chicken in the flour, shaking off any excess. Dip them back into the buttermilk mixture, then back into the flour. Make sure to shake off excess flour or it'll burn while frying.
  • Fry 3-4 chicken pieces at a time, occasionally turning them over. Cook for 10-12 minutes, until golden brown, crispy, and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C). Rest the cooked chicken pieces on a wire rack to let excess oil drain off.
  • Drizzle the chicken with honey, then serve.
  • Enjoy!

CRISPY CHICKEN BREASTS WITH SPICY HONEY

Crispy Chicken Breasts with Spicy Honey image

Provided by Michael Symon : Food Network

Categories     main-dish

Time 30m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 18

4 cups vegetable oil, canola oil, peanut oil or duck fat, for frying
1 cup cornstarch
2 teaspoons baking powder
Pinch of kosher salt
1 teaspoon your favorite seasonings, like smoked paprika or cayenne pepper
8 boneless skinless chicken breasts, each about 6 ounces
1/2 cup cornstarch
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon celery salt
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Pinch of kosher salt
1/4 cup pilsner
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup vodka
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup Sriracha or 1/2 cup thinly sliced various chiles, such as jalapeno, fresno and serrano peppers

Steps:

  • For the chicken: Place a heavy-bottomed Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add your frying oil and heat to 375 degrees F.
  • In a large bowl or a gallon-sized resealable plastic bag, mix together the cornstarch, baking powder, salt and your favorite seasonings. Add your chicken pieces to the flour mixture. Coat the chicken well, but be sure to shake off any excess flour. At this point the chicken can be battered immediately, or it can sit, refrigerated, for 2 hours or overnight, coated in the dry dredge.
  • In a separate large bowl, whisk together all of the dry batter ingredients, then add all of the wet ingredients, stirring to smooth out any lumps.
  • Dredge the cornstarch-coated cutlets in the batter, letting any excess drip off and lay them in the oil. Add a few pieces at a time so the temperature of the oil doesn't drop, and fry until golden brown on both sides, 3 to 5 minutes. Remove to a paper towel-lined tray.
  • For the spicy honey: Whisk together the honey and Sriracha or chiles in a bowl. If using chiles, allow the heat to infuse for at least 30 minutes.
  • To serve, drizzle the chicken with your Spicy Honey and serve with any extra Spicy Honey on the side.

SPICY HONEY CHICKEN

Spicy Honey Chicken image

Spicy Honey Chicken made with chicken thighs rubbed with a smoky blend of spices and brushed with a sticky sweet honey sauce is one of our favorite dinners during grilling season. Serve it with rice or on top of a bed of arugula dressed with an easy citrus vinaigrette for a delicious meal!

Provided by Amy Nash

Categories     Main Course

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 11

8-10 chicken thighs
1-2 Tablespoons olive oil
2 teaspoons chili powder
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
1/2 teaspoon chipotle chili powder
3/4 cup honey
3 Tablespoon apple cider vinegar

Steps:

  • Preheat grill to medium-high heat, around 400 to 450 degrees F. Make sure the grill grates are clean.
  • Trim excess fat from the chicken, if needed, then pat dry. Drizzle with the olive oil, rubbing it to coat the chicken on both sides.
  • In a small bowl or jar, combine all of the spice rub ingredients, stirring to combine. Sprinkle the rub evenly over the chicken pieces on both the front and back sides, rubbing it in with your hands so it is evenly distributed.
  • Heat the honey in a small microwave-safe bowl in the microwave for 15 seconds until very runny. Add the vinegar and stir to combine. Set aside 2-3 tablespoons of the honey-vinegar mixture for drizzling over the chicken at the end.
  • Grill boneless chicken thighs for 3-5 minutes per side, anywhere from 6 to 10 minutes total, depending on their size, until they reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees F when tested with a digital meat thermometer. Bone-in chicken thighs will take a little longer to cook - more like 10-14 minutes total with about 5-7 minutes per side. In the last minute or two of grilling, brush the chicken on both sides with the honey-vinegar glaze. Watch the chicken carefully at this point because the honey will smoke and flare-ups can happen because of the sugar in the glaze.
  • Remove from the heat and drizzle with the reserved honey-vinegar glaze, then let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

CRISPY COCONUT CHICKEN WITH SPICY HONEY ORANGE SAUCE RECIPE

Crispy Coconut Chicken with Spicy Honey Orange Sauce Recipe image

Provided by charlotteh371

Number Of Ingredients 15

1 and 1/2 pounds skinless, boneless chicken breasts or tenders
1 cup sweetened shredded coconut1
3/4 cup Panko2
1/2 cup whole wheat flour (or all-purpose) (measured correctly)
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 large Eggland's Best eggs
1/4 cup coconut oil3
optional or garnish: chopped cilantro or parsley
Spicy Honey Orange Sauce
1/2 cup orange preserves/marmalade
1/4 cup honey
3 Tablespoons dijon mustard
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
salt, to taste

Steps:

  • If using chicken breasts, pound down and cut into strips. If using boneless, skinless chicken tenders (chicken tenders are the lean strips of meat found attached to the underside of chicken breasts - they can also be purchased separately.) - cut in half lengthwise. 2.Preheat oven to 400°F (204°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Set aside. 3.Pulse the shredded coconut in a food processor or blender to break it down into smaller pieces. Alternatively, you can chop it up. Mix it with the Panko in a medium bowl. Set aside. In a second medium bowl, whisk the flour, salt, and pepper together. In a third bowl, whisk the eggs together. 4.Heat the coconut oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. 5.Coat each chicken strip in flour, shaking off any excess. Then, dip in egg and let any excess drip off. Then generously roll in the coconut mixture, shaking off any excess. Add more Panko to the dish if you are running low. 6.Fry 4-6 chicken strips at a time in the coconut oil-- only about 2 minutes per side until the crust is golden brown. Once each is done, place strips onto prepared baking pan. 7.Bake for 6-10 minutes or until chicken is completely baked through. 8.Make the sauce: Whisk all of the sauce ingredients together except for the salt. Taste. Add salt as needed. 9.Serve chicken warm with the dipping sauce. Add an optional garnish like a little chopped cilantro or parsley. Store any leftover chicken in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Reheat in a 350°F (177°C) oven for 10 minutes or until warmed through. 10.Make ahead tip: Baked coconut chicken freezes well up to 2-3 months. Bake frozen chicken in a 350°F (177°C) oven for 20 minutes or until warmed through. Additional Notes: 1.I prefer sweetened coconut for a slightly sweet crust. You can use unsweetened coconut if you'd prefer it, though we didn't like the unsweetened crust as much compared to sweetened coconut. I also find that the sweetened coconut browns easier and was a little crispier. 2.Panko is a Japanese-style breadcrumb traditionally used as a coating for fried or baked foods. It's available in major grocery stores near the stuffing. Panko is heavily preferred opposed to regular bread crumbs because they tend to stay crispier longer. You may buy seasoned or unseasoned and then add more/less seasonings to your breading if preferred. I use unseasoned. 3.Instead of flash frying in coconut oil in steps 4 and 6, you can simply bake the coconut chicken for around 20 minutes (flipping halfway through) and skip those two steps. However, we much preferred the taste of the chicken after being pan fried in coconut oil for that brief amount of time. It adds another layer of coconut flavor as well as ensures a crispy golden brown crust.

  • Simmer the sauce on low for about 30 minutes until reduced by half. Make sure to whisk occasionally to prevent burning.
  • While the sauce is simmering, fry the chicken. If using medium sized chicken breasts, slice in half length wise so you have 4 thin sliced chicken breasts. If you need to, pound them to make them equal in thickness.
