Crispy tofu made in the air fryer

1 block of extra firm tofu
1 tbsp arrowroot starch (can sub cornstarch)
1 tso salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp smoked paprika
Spray oil - I use avocado
2 tbsp peanut butter
1 tbsp lime juice
1/2 tbsp sesame oil
1/2 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tsp sriracha
1 tbsp water
1/2 tbsp coconut aminos

Steps:

  • Drain package of extra firm tofu and press tofu for 20 minutes. You can do this in a tofu press or wrap tofu in a clean towel and place under a heavy weight like books or a large pan. When tofu is pressed cut into 1″ cubes.
  • Combine arrowroot starch, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika in a small bowl. Toss cubed tofu in this mixture until each cube is evenly coated.
  • Place seasoned tofu in an air fryer basket. Spray tofu on all sides with a spray oil. Preheat air fryer to 400F.
  • Place tofu in air fryer and cook at 400F for 8 minutes. Remove tray from air fryer and toss. Return tofu to air fryer and cook for an additional 7 minutes.
  • While the tofu cooks prepare the peanut sauce by whisking together peanut butter, lime juice, sesame oil, rice vinegar, sriracha, water and coconut aminos
  • Serve crispy air fryer tofu with quinoa or brown rice, fresh veggies, peanut sauce and green onions

Make crispy air fryer tofu with a spicy peanut sauce and lots of vegetables for a vegan dinner that's simple, but feels fancy! This tofu is super flavourful, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Also gluten-free and ready in under 30 minutes!

10 oz extra firm tofu
1 tbsp paprika
1 tbsp maple syrup
3 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari)
1 cup soy yogurt
3 tbsp peanut butter
2 tbsp sriracha
2 tbsp lime juice ((juice of 1/2 lime))
1 cup cherry tomatoes (diced)
1 large yellow bell pepper (diced)
1 large onion (diced)

Steps:

  • Press the tofu for at least 30 minutes if necessary. Or you can buy pre-pressed extra firm tofu.
  • Cube the tofu and mix it together with the paprika, maple syrup and soy sauce/tamari. Marinade for 30 minutes, or overnight.
  • Transfer the tofu to the air fryer basket and air fry for 10-15 minutes at 200 degrees C/400 F. Shake the air fryer basket half way through.
  • Meanwhile, prepare the sauce. Simply mix together the soy yogurt, peanut butter, sriracha and lime juice. Then, add the cherry tomatoes, bell pepper and onion and mix once again.

A tasty snack or appetizer. Tofu cubes are very crispy outside, yet warm and soft inside. Sort of like Asian "french fries". And i simple love the sauce, even used it as salad dressing sometimes!

200 g firm tofu
2 tablespoons cornstarch
salt and pepper, to taste
oil, for frying
1 tablespoon peanut butter (i used crunchy)
3 tablespoons soymilk or 3 tablespoons coconut milk (will do)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon soy sauce or 1 teaspoon oyster sauce
1 tablespoon chili sauce or 1 tablespoon ketchup
1 dash chili flakes
salt and pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • Drain tofu (i pressed gently between paper towels).
  • Cut into bite-sized cubes.
  • Toss with cornstarch, coating the cubes.
  • Sprinkle a little salt and pepper.
  • Heat some oil (about 3-4 tablespoon, just ensure pan is coated).
  • Fry the tofu cubes in batches, making sure all sides are lightly browned.
  • Drain on paper towels, then sprinkle with salt and pepper if desired.
  • Sauce: Heat the milk in small saucepan (you can make sauce in microwave too).
  • Add peanut butter, stirring well.
  • Add other seasonings, according to personal taste (I love spicy food, so i added LOTS of chilli flakes!). If you use coconut milk, add 1/2 - 1 tsp of lime juice too - it will be great!
  • Serve hot, as a snack or appetizer. Sometimes i serve them with a sweet Chinese dessert: Green Bean Soup.
