CREME DE MENTHE (LIQUEUR)



Creme De Menthe (Liqueur) image

One of the most popular liqueurs & quite easy to make at home for about 1/3 of the cost. 30% alcohol by volume. No refrigeration needed. Use in drinks such as Flying Grasshoppers, Mexican Grasshoppers, Glacier Mints, Mint Sandwich shots, Mint Chocolate shots, Mint Choc Chip Mind Fucks, Fuzzy Ethans, Eskimo Joes, Everybody's Irish and the Drunken Elf. This recipe calls for either peppermint or spearmint, but I think you actually need a combination of both. Spearmint masks the peppermint somewhat while sweetening and smoothing out the composition, but if you use too much the whole thing tastes like toothpaste.

8 ounces Everclear alcohol
1 tablespoon spearmint oil or 1 tablespoon peppermint oil
1 tablespoon green food coloring
1 cup Karo light corn syrup
1 cup water (approx.)

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients and pour into a bottle.
  • Fill bottle with water, seal tightly, and shake frequently over the next week before using.

  • Original White Lady. 1.5 oz Crème de Menthe. 1 oz Triple Sec. 0.66 oz Lemon juice. Instructions: Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake until the drink is chilled.
  • Emerald Isle Crème de Menthe Cocktail. 1.5 oz Gin. 1 tsp Green Crème de Menthe. 2 dashes of Angostura bitters. Instructions: Put all ingredients together into a mixing glass filled with ice.
