Homemade Creme De Menthe image

I was making all kinds of liquers last summer for Christmas gifts and stumbled across this recipe, but I don't remember where I found it. Very yummy- make sure you use a high-quality vodka for a really smooth finish(I found Seagram's Silver to be good quality for a great price). The lower-grade vodkas tend to give it too much of a bite. T

Number Of Ingredients 4

4 cups granulated sugar
2 cups water
3 cups vodka
1 tablespoon mint (real, not artificial) or 1 tablespoon peppermint extract (real, not artificial)

Steps:

  • Boil sugar and water together.
  • Let cool.
  • Combine all other ingredients in a large pitcher.
  • Add sugar syrup, stirring to combine, and pour into clean sterilized bottles for storage.
  • Age for a month.

A yummy liqure that is great to use in Martini's. Also a wonderful holiday gift. Allow for 4 weeks to sit.

Number Of Ingredients 4

6 teaspoons dried mint or 2 -4 teaspoons mint extract
3 cups vodka
2 cups sugar
1 cup water

Steps:

  • Soak mint leaves (or extract) in the vodka for 14 days, shaking once daily.
  • Strain out mint leaves.
  • Mix sugar and water in pot.
  • Heat at moderatly high heat and cook 5 minutes.
  • Let cool, then add to vodka.
  • Put into a glass jar and sit in a cool, dark place for 2 more weeks.
  • Add green food colouring (until it reaches appealing colour).
  • Place in bottle and enjoy or label for a gift.

A popular mint liqueur, learn how easy it is to make crème de menthe at home. The recipe uses a natural fresh mint infusion that's great in cocktails.

2 1/4 cups 80-proof vodka
1 1/2 cups fresh mint leaves, unpacked
1 cup water
1 cup granulated sugar

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • In a one-quart jar, pour the vodka and tear the mint leaves as you add them. Shake well to immerse the herbs. Let infuse for 48 hours, shaking once a day.
  • Bring the water to a boil in a small or medium saucepan. Add the sugar and stir until completely dissolved, then reduce to a simmer. After 5 minutes, remove the simple syrup from the heat and let cool completely. If making ahead, refrigerate in a sealed container until ready to blend the liqueur.
  • After 2 days, add the cooled simple syrup to the mint-infused liquor. Shake and infuse for another 24 hours.
  • Strain out the mint using a fine-mesh strainer lined with cheesecloth. Discard the mint and strain one or two more times to remove extra sediment.
  • Funnel the crème de menthe into a 750-milliliter bottle or several smaller bottles.
  • To color the liqueur, add 3 to 5 drops of green food coloring and shake well to incorporate.

1/3 cup heavy whipping cream
1/4 cup butter
1 (10 ounce) package creme de menthe baking chips
1 (12 ounce) package vanilla flavored candy coating
2 drops green food coloring
powdered sugar or cocoa
1/4 cup real semi-sweet chocolate chips, melted

Steps:

  • Combine whipping cream and butter in 2 quart saucepan. Cook over medium-low heat until butter is melted [4 to 5 minutes]. Add creme de menthe baking chips. Continue cooking, stirring constantly, until chips are melted and mixture is smooth. Cover; refrigerate at least 2 hours or freeze 1 hour until firm.
  • Dust hands with powdered sugar or cocoa. Working quickly, shape mixture into 1 inch balls. Place balls onto waxed paper-lined baking sheet; refrigerate at least 2 hours.
  • Meanwhile, melt candy coating in deep 1 quart saucepan over low heat; stir until smooth. Stir in food color until well mixed. Remove from heat; cool 10 minutes.
  • Remove truffles from refrigerator. Place 1 truffle in candy coating mixture. Use small spoon to coat truffle; immediately remove and place onto waxed paper. Repeat with remaining truffles. Refrigerate until coating is set.
  • Drizzle each truffle with melted chocolate. Refrigerate until set. Place truffles in paper or foil candy cups. Store refrigerated in container with tight-fitting lid up to 2 weeks.

This recipe is from a Pillsbury holiday cookbook. I have made these trufflesand am rewriting my intro to reflect that. Store in refrigerator.

1/2 cup whipping cream
1 (10 ounce) bag creme de menthe baking chips
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
10 ounces vanilla candy coating or 10 ounces almond bark
2 drops green food coloring

Steps:

  • In a 2 quart saucepan, heat whipping cream over low heat 2-3 minutes or until cream is warm.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Add creme de menthe baking chips and chocolate chips.
  • Stir until melted and smooth.
  • Pour into a wax paper lined 9x13 baking dish.
  • Cover and refrigerate 1 hour or til firm.
  • Line cookie sheets with waxed paper.
  • Turn out onto wax paper lined cutting board.
  • Cut into squares.
  • Put squares 2 inches apart on cookie sheets.
  • Refrigerate 30 minutes.
  • In deep 1 quart saucepan, melt candy coating (almond bark) over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Cool 10 minutes.
  • In a small ziptop bag, pour 1/4 cup melted coating and the 2 drops of green food coloring.
  • Seal bag and mix until color is evenly mixed.
  • Set aside.
  • Using a fork, dip 1 truffle at a time into white candy coating to coat.
  • Return to waxed paper lined cookie sheets.
  • Cut off a tiny piece of the corner of the ziptop bag containing green mixture.
  • Squeeze bag to drizzle each dipped truffle with green mixture.
  • Let truffles stand 10 minutes.
  • Store in the refrigerator.
  • You can put each truffle in an individual mini foil muffin cup if you want.
