This is a very easy recipe and very popular. The recipe came from a neighbor who brought it to our annual 4th of July picnic.

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 (18.25 ounce) package German chocolate cake mix with pudding
¾ cup melted butter
⅓ cup evaporated milk
1 cup chopped pecans
13 ounces individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped
⅓ cup evaporated milk
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray one 9x13 inch pan with non-stick coating .
  • Combine the cake mix, butter and 1/3 cup evaporated milk. Mix well and pour 2/3 of the batter into pan.
  • Press pecans into batter and bake for 8 to 10 minutes.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the caramel and 1/3 cup evaporated milk. Stir until melted and smooth; pour over cooled cake mix.
  • Sprinkle chocolate chips on top of caramel and top with spoonfuls of remaining cake mix. Bake for additional l5 to l8 minutes; cool and cut.

I discovered this caramel recipe in a local newspaper years ago and have made these soft buttery caramels ever since. I make them for Christmas, picnics and charity auctions-and they are so much better than store-bought caramels. 1 teaspoon plus 1 cup butter, divided
1 cup sugar
1 cup dark corn syrup
1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Line an 8-in. square pan with foil; grease the foil with 1 teaspoon butter and set aside., In a large heavy saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup and remaining butter; bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Boil slowly for 4 minutes without stirring., Remove from the heat; stir in milk. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook until a candy thermometer reads 238° (soft-ball stage), stirring constantly. Remove from the heat; stir in vanilla., Pour into prepared pan (do not scrape saucepan). Cool. Using foil, lift candy out of pan. Discard foil; cut candy into 1-in. squares. Wrap individually in waxed paper; twist ends.

1 cup finely chopped pecans
1 (18 ounce) package nestle toll house refrigerated brownie bar dough, broken into squares
12 nestle treasures creamy caramel candies
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees, grease or paper line 12 muffin cups.
  • Place pecans in medium bowl, press brownies into pecans, coating well, place into prepared cups.
  • Bake for 22-25 minutes or until edges are set, remove pan to wire rack, gently press 1 treasure into each brownie, cool completely, remove from pan.
  • Microwave chocolate chips in small, heavy duty plastic bag on high power for 30 to 45 seconds;knead.
  • Microwave at additional 10 to 20 second intervals, kneading until smooth, cut tiny corner from bag; squeeze to drizzle over brownies.
