COCONUT-AND-ALMOND CANDY

Coconut-and-Almond Candy image

The killer combination of coconut, almonds, and milk chocolate makes for a delectable candy bar. One of the most iconic of American candies, the Almond Joy, is famous for its creamy coconut filling topped with almonds and covered in milk chocolate. Its sibling, the Mounds bar, has the same coconut center but no almonds. Although the recipes for these two candies are top secret, it's possible to make wonderfully coconutty chocolate candies in your own home.

MOUNDS BALLS

I make these bite-sized treats as gifts for friends-and I get lots of thank-you notes in return. The mailman doesn't mind delivering them, though. He gets a box of candy, too! We have three generations of family working together on our dairy farm in the "thumb" of Michigan. Everyone agrees these milky morsels promote our product deliciously. -Kathy Dorman, Snover, Michigan

2016-11-27 So, back to reality. While I was rolling up these sweet little balls I started wondering if Peter Paul was still the producer of Mounds bars and what their story is nowadays. As soon as I could I checked out Wikipedia. To make a long story very short they started in 1929 and Hershey's bought them in 1978. Boy! I bet they made lots of moolah!
