COCKEYED CAKE

Cockeyed Cake image

This is an old recipe that I made in our Home Studies class in school. It has the strangest ingredients but is a quick and easy chocolate fudge snack cake. The kids will love it and so will you.

Provided by Tiggrr

Categories     Dessert

Time 40m

Yield 1 cake

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 1/2 cups sifted flour
3 tablespoons cocoa
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
5 tablespoons cooking oil
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup cold water

Steps:

  • Put flour in sifter (ok its an old recipe so I know most of us don't own one any more. Any bowl will do or I just place right in pan) Add cocoa, baking soda, sugar and salt.
  • Sift into greased 9x9x2" pan.
  • Make 3 holes in the mixture.
  • Pour oil in one, vinegar in the next and vanilla in the last.
  • Pour cold water over all.
  • Beat until nearly smooth and no flour shows.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

PEANUT BUTTER DELIGHT DOGGIE CAKE

Peanut Butter Delight Doggie Cake image

Instead of the baby food in this recipe, you can also use 1 or 2 fresh bananas but I prefer the ease of the baby food over trying to buy bananas at the perfect ripeness.

8 oz cream cheese
1 container of baby food bananas
1 tsp cinnamon

Steps:

  • Cake:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
  • Mix together flour and baking soda.
  • Add remaining ingredients and mix well.
  • Pour into a small round pan and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  • Frosting:

BECK'S RECIPES: COCKEYED CAKE
2007-11-06 Cockeyed Cake This is the easiest cake in the world. Really. And it's vegan, should you care about that. And a responsible child can do the whole thing on her own (or his, whatever), so long as you handle the oven bits. It's also tasty. You CAN frost it - it's certainly nice frosted - although I'm prone to just devouring the whole thing hot straight from the oven. Get out your square 9" cake ...

THE HISTORY OF WACKY CAKE – QUAINT COOKING
2020-01-15 This made me remember a recipe I made in Peg Bracken’s I Hate to Cookbook called the Cockeyed Cake. I made a bee line for the 1960 cookbook and sure enough the recipe was for Wacky Cake just called a different name. Now I knew that it dated at least sometime around the 1960s. Then in a 1985 article, a reader wrote in about the cake saying that it was at least from the 1950s. So 1950s it is ...

2010-07-15 Cockeyed Cake (This is a famous recipe, I believe, but I haven't the faintest idea who invented it. I saw it in a newspaper years ago, meant to clip it, didn't, and finally bumped into the cake myself in the apartment of a friend of mine. It was dark, rich, moist, and chocolatey, and she said it took no more than 5 minutes to mix it up. So I tried it, and, oddly enough, mine, too, was dark ...
