Yield 2 dozen.

Number Of Ingredients 9

3 to 3-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 package (1/4 ounce) quick-rise yeast
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup whole milk
1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon water, divided
1 tablespoon butter
1 large egg white
Coarse salt

Steps:

  • Combine 1-1/2 cups flour, yeast, sugar and salt. In a small saucepan, heat milk, 1/4 cup water and butter to 120°-130°. Add to dry ingredients; beat on medium speed just until moistened. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a stiff dough., Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, 6-8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 30 minutes., Punch down dough. Pinch off golf ball-sized pieces. On a lightly floured surface, shape each into a 6-in. rope. Place on greased baking sheets 1 in. apart. Cover and let rise for 15 minutes., Preheat oven to 400°. Beat egg white and remaining water; brush over breadsticks. Sprinkle with coarse salt. Bake until golden, about 10 minutes. Remove from pans to wire racks to cool.

This Quick Homemade Breadsticks Recipe only takes 35 minutes! They are so easy and go perfect with soups, pastas, and salads!

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 cup warm water*
2½ teaspoons yeast
3 Tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon salt
¼ cup vegetable oil (or canola oil)
3 cups all-purpose flour ((start with 2 1/2 cups and add more as needed))
2 Tablespoons butter (melted)
garlic salt (optional topping)
powdered parmesan cheese (optional topping)
Italian seasoning (optional topping)

Steps:

  • In a large mixing bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer, mix together warm water, yeast, sugar, and salt until sugar has dissolved.
  • Add in oil and flour and mix until a smooth dough forms and it's no longer sticky.
  • Roll out into a 10x12" rectangle.
  • Cut into strips about 3/4" - 1" wide.
  • Twist each strip once or twice and lay out on a greased baking sheet (I sprayed mine with non-stick cooking spray).
  • Let breadsticks rise for 20 minutes (longer if you can, but at least 20 minutes).
  • Bake at 375 degrees for 10-15 minutes.
  • When the breadsticks come out of the oven, brush breadsticks with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic salt, Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning.

Bread sticks make delicious, fuss-free snacks and hors d'oeuvres, and they're surprisingly simple to make.

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for work surface
1/2 teaspoon coarse salt
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
3 tablespoons solid vegetable shortening
Sea salt, for sprinkling
2 tablespoons olive oil (optional)

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350 degrees. In the bowl of a food processor, pulse flour, salt, and baking powder to combine. Add shortening, and pulse until mixture resembles coarse meal. With the machine running, gradually add between 1/2 and 3/4 cup ice water until dough comes together, about 1 minute.
  • Transfer dough to a very lightly floured work surface. Shape dough into a smooth rectangle, about 4 by 6 inches. Roll out dough to an 8-by-10-inch sheet, 1/4 inch thick. Cut dough lengthwise into 1/8-inch-wide strips.
  • Using your hands, gently roll each strip back and forth into 16-inch-long sticks. For a twisted version, grab each end of the dough, strip with your fingers and carefully stretch and twist the strip in opposite directions. Arrange the sticks on 2 baking sheets, side by side but not touching. If salting, brush each stick lightly with olive oil, and sprinkle with sea salt. Press ends onto baking sheet to keep sticks straight while they bake. Bake until firm and cooked through, 14 to 18 minutes. Transfer sticks to a wire rack to cool.
