Number Of Ingredients 16

2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1-1/4 cups cold lard
6 to 8 tablespoons cold 2% milk
FILLING:
2-1/2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
9 cups thinly sliced peeled tart apples (about 9 medium)
1 tablespoon bourbon, optional
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Dash salt
3 tablespoons cold butter, cubed
TOPPING:
1 tablespoon 2% milk
2 teaspoons coarse sugar

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, mix flour and salt; cut in lard until crumbly. Gradually add milk, tossing with a fork until dough holds together when pressed. Divide dough in half. Shape each into a disk; wrap in plastic. Refrigerate 1 hour or overnight., For filling, in a large bowl, mix sugar, cinnamon and ginger. Add apples and toss to coat. Cover; let stand 1 hour to allow apples to release juices, stirring occasionally., Drain apples, reserving syrup. Place syrup and, if desired, bourbon in a small saucepan; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, 20-25 minutes or until mixture thickens slightly and turns a medium amber color. Remove from heat; cool completely., Preheat oven to 400°. Toss drained apples with flour and salt. On a lightly floured surface, roll one half of dough to a 1/8-in.-thick circle; transfer to a 10-in. cast-iron or other deep ovenproof skillet. Trim pastry even with rim. Add apple mixture. Pour cooled syrup over top; dot with butter., Roll remaining dough to a 1/8-in.-thick circle. Place over filling. Trim, seal and flute edge. Cut slits in top. Brush milk over pastry; sprinkle with coarse sugar. Place on a foil-lined baking sheet. Bake 20 minutes., Reduce oven setting to 350°. Bake 45-55 minutes longer or until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly. Cool on a wire rack.

4 large Crisp Apples Peeled
1 cup Sugar
2 tablespoons Flour
1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon Salt
1 tablespoon Cider Vinegar
1 tablespoon Lemon Juice
1/2 cup Brown Sugar

Steps:

  • First Step: Mixing the Pie Crust Ingredients Warm the butter in the microwave until it is soft, but not melted. Mix in a large bowl: 2 cups all-purpose flour I teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon sugar Then cut in using the dough blender: 6 tablespoons butter 6 tablespoons shortening 6 to 8 tablespoons ice water 1/2 teaspoon Nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon Wrap Pie Crust Dough Second Step: Chill the Pie Dough Wrap your pie crust in plastic wrap. Then place in refrigerator for 20 or more minutes, while you make the pie filling. First Step: Slice Apples Peel and slice your apples. Soak them in water with a tablespoon of lemon juice. This will prevent the first apple cut from. Apple Coating for Pie Second Step: Mix Filling Mix in large mixing bowl: 1 cup sugar 2 tablespoons flour 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon vinegar Apples and mixture Third Step: Mix Apples Now, drain the water off of the apples and mix them with the spices. This will prevent the crust's edge from burning while it bakes. You will want to take the tinfoil off about ten minutes before the pie is done. This way, the apple pie will have a golden brown edge. Bake your pie at 400 degrees for 50-60 minutes. Apple Pie Second Step: Brush With Egg White For a glossy effect, brush a small portion of egg white on top of the crust when you remove the tinfoil. Sprinkle a small amount of Cinnamon Sugar over the top of the egg white for a sweet, sugary kick to your pie.

2 (9 inch) unbaked pie crusts
7 cups peeled, cored and sliced apples
1 cup white sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg
¼ teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons butter

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
  • In a bowl combine apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Place mixture in a pastry-lined 9 inch pie plate. Dot with butter and adjust top crust that has been vented.
  • Place in oven and bake at 425 degrees F (220 degrees C) for 10 minutes. Turn oven temperature down to 275-300 degrees F (135-150 degrees C) and bake 40-50 minutes or until crust is golden brown and apples are tender. Let cool and serve.

This is my mother's apple pie. This is the recipe I use all the time and I love it. I also use a dash of nutmeg so if you wish you can put that in too.

6 cups thinly sliced apples
¾ cup white sugar
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 recipe pastry for a 9-inch double-crust pie

Steps:

  • Prepare your pastry for a two crust pie. Wipe, quarter, core, peel, and slice apples; measure to 6 cups.
  • Combine sugar and cinnamon. The amount of sugar used depends on how tart your apples are.
  • Arrange apples in layers in pastry lined pie plate. Sprinkle each layer with sugar and cinnamon. Dot top layer with small pieces of butter or margarine. Cover with top crust.
  • Place on lowest rack in oven preheated to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C). Bake for 10 minutes, then reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Bake for 30 to 35 minutes longer. Serve warm or cold.
