SLOW-COOKER MEATY ITALIAN SPAGHETTI SAUCE

Slow-Cooker Meaty Italian Spaghetti Sauce image

If you've been searching for "the one," that is a reliably delicious spaghetti sauce that will please the family, freeze well and get better overnight, we humbly suggest this recipe. No hard-to-find ingredients here, just everything you'd expect to be in a basic red sauce. Before stewing to perfection in your slow cooker, this sauce does require a crucial couple minutes of skillet time. Taking the 15 minutes to brown Italian sausage and onions to golden-brown perfection doesn't just bring out the best in these ingredients, it also leads to a sauce that's considerably more delicious than it would be otherwise. And after you do it, it's just a matter of tossing all the ingredients into the pot and letting them simmer together into a rich and savory red gravy!

CROCK POT SPAGHETTI SAUCE

Crock Pot Spaghetti Sauce image

I love this recipe, but I must say I have forgotten where I got it from. I make a crock pot full, we eat on it for two days, and then I freeze the rest for another time. I use italian sausage, and omit the red pepper and sugar (prefer a not too sweet sauce). If I am short of time, I always cook the meat the night before, then put it all in the crock pot the next morning. I would think, though, you could cook it all night then all the next day until dinner too. The recipe states 4-6 servings but I think it makes more than that. Enjoy!

Provided by Carolyn2003

Categories     Sauces

Time 10h20m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

4 tablespoons cooking oil, divided
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 (15 1/2 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 1/2 cups water
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon red pepper (optional)
1 lb ground beef
1 (29 ounce) can tomato puree
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon oregano
2 lbs sausage (Italian links or country style)
1/4-1/2 cup sugar, to taste (optional)

Steps:

  • Brown ground beef in 2 tablespoons hot oil in frying pan.
  • When almost browned, add onion and continue browning until onion is tender. Pour meat and onion into crock pot.
  • Add puree, sauce, paste, water, salt, pepper and oregano and set dial on low setting.
  • Cut 2 pounds sausage into pieces and brown in remaining 2 tablespoons oil. When brown, place sausages in sauce in crock pot.
  • Continue cooking for 12 hours.
  • If you like your sauce sweeter, you could add 1/4 to 1/2 cup sugar to this.

CROCK POT SPAGHETTI

Crock Pot Spaghetti image

Easy crock pot spaghetti is the ultimate comfort food - it basically cooks itself! Prep everything in 15 minutes and the slow cooker does the rest.

Provided by Donna Elick

Categories     Main

Time 3h15m

Number Of Ingredients 6

32 ounces spaghetti sauce (1 jar)
24 ounces frozen meatballs (do not thaw)
3 cups water
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 package of spaghetti noodles - 8 oz.
2 tablespoons freshly chopped herbs (basil, oregano, and parsley)

Steps:

  • Pour the jar of spaghetti sauce into the bottom of the slow cooker and spread evenly.
  • Nestle the meatballs down into the spaghetti sauce. They do not need to be thawed.
  • Pour 3 cups of water over the meatballs and sauce.
  • Drizzle olive oil over the water so that it coats the surface.
  • Submerge the spaghetti noodles into the water - you want them to go through the oil on top of the liquid to help coat them and prevent them from sticking to each other. Be sure that the noodles are completely submerged under the liquid.
  • Sprinkle fresh herbs (you can use dried herbs if desired - about 1 tablespoon) over the contents.
  • Cover with a lid and cook on LOW for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally to make sure the noodles are separated and under the liquid.
  • Spaghetti is done when the noodles are al dente and the excess water has been absorbed. You may turn the slow cooker to the high setting for 15-20 minutes to speed up the absorption and evaporation of the water.
  • Stir everything together and serve immediately.

CROCK POT SPAGHETTI SAUCE

Crock Pot Spaghetti Sauce image

The best thing to come out of my crock pot! Very economical, this rotini takes on a good flavor with the meat cooked right in the sauce...excellent Italian spaghetti sauce!

Provided by true_heart_ky

Categories     Sauces

Time 6h5m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 3

2 (26 1/2 ounce) cans hunts spaghetti sauce
1 large onion, diced
1 lb ground beef or 1 lb ground chuck

Steps:

  • Just take your 2 cans Hunts Meat Spaghetti sauce, throw in 1 onion-diced,and 1 lb ground beef or chuck(just pull apart with fingers, it'll separate more during cooking) and let simmer for awhile, until the meat is done(I peek at mine after about 4 to 5 hours just to give it a stir).
  • When your sauce is done, boil your rotini noodles up and drain.
  • Add this spaghetti sauce to the noodles -- the flavor when you do this is amazing! It's kinda like a goulash, really good with cornbread -- It's funny cuz I never liked the Hunts canned Spaghetti sauce before -- cooking the meat in the sauce really changes the flavor -- but it has to be Hunts -- I tried using Prego and no go!
  • You don't have to use this crockpot method either -- you can simmer it over medium heat if you don't have time to slow cook it -- .
