Chocolate Pretzel Rings with Kisses and M&Ms are the perfect sweet and salty Christmas treat. They are so easy to just pop in your mouth and enjoy.

80 Pretzel Rings
1 bag Hershey's Hugs
1 bag M&Ms, red and green

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 275 degrees.
  • Line a cookie sheet or baking pan with parchment paper. Lay out the pretzels. [Note: wax paper is NOT parchment paper!]
  • Put one chocolate on each pretzel.
  • Melt in oven for 2-3 minutes.
  • Immediately place an M&M in the middle and press down. I like to make sure the "m" is face down so they look nice.
  • Cool in fridge until hardened, about 5-10 minutes.

48 to 50 pretzel rings or squares
48 to 50 milk chocolate or striped chocolate kisses
1/4 cup milk chocolate M&M's

Steps:

  • Place the pretzels on greased baking sheets; place a chocolate kiss in the center of each pretzel. Bake at 275° until chocolate is softened, for 2-3 minutes. Remove from the oven., Place an M&M's candy on each, pressing down slightly so chocolate fills the pretzel holes. Refrigerate until chocolate is firm, 5-10 minutes. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.

1 bag clancy's pretzel rings
1 bag hershey's kisses, milk chocolate or your favorite flavor - without nuts, though
1 bag m&m's, plain

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees.
  • 2. Place pretzel rings on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet.
  • 3. Place chocolate drop (Hershey's Kiss) in the center of each pretzel ring.
  • 4. Place in oven and melt slightly. Only 5 - 10 minutes!
  • 5. Remove from oven and press chocolate down into pretzel with the back of a spoon.
  • 6. Place candy-coated chocolate piece (M&M) in center of chocolate and gently press down.
  • 7. Refrigerate until firm, about 30 minutes.
  • 8. ENJOY! If there are any left (none at my house!)they can be stored in tightly covered containers. Or give as gifts for special occasions and holidays. (Says that right on the bag!)

Pretzel rods
Brown candy coating, milk chocolate morsels, or chocolate almond bark
White candy coating, white chocolate morsels, or vanilla almond bark
Green candy coating
Red candy coating
Assorted sprinkles:
Confetti Holly Mix
Wilton Holiday Nonpareils
Wilton Christmas Snowflake Sprinkles
Crushed peppermint

Steps:

  • Melt the candy coating according to package directions giving special care not to overheat the candy. If the candy coating is overheated, it will be too thick. You can add 2 teaspoons of vegetable shortening to help thin the candy but do not add any other type of liquid as the candy will seize and harden.
  • Pour candy coating over two-thirds of the pretzel rod and shake gently to remove excess. If applying sprinkles, do so immediately rotating the pretzel rods to coat all sides. Larger sprinkles work best if placed individually.
  • Place pretzel rod on waxed paper or cooling rack. (Cook's notes: Waxed paper makes for easier release.)
  • If drizzling with additional colored candy melts, allow the initial candy coating to set completely. Then, use a spoon or fork to drizzle candy coating over the pretzel rods. Before the pretzel sets, gently pick it up and move to clean wax paper.
  • Let pretzel rods dry completely before packaging or serving.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature. Placing in the refrigerator may cause the pretzel to soften.

The openings in this holiday bread often serve as a container for Christmas cookies. From The Festive Bread Book by Kathy Cutler. I've changed the recipe just a bit to prevent any mishaps with the yeast.

2/3 cup milk
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 -2 1/2 cups flour
2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast, one envelope is fine
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
1 egg
1 egg, beaten with 1 tbl water for glaze

Steps:

  • Heat milk with sugar, butter and salt until hot, stir to melt butter and allow to cool until slightly warm, but not hot.
  • Dissolve the yeast in tepid water, add a teaspoon of yeast and a pinch of sugar (if you wish). Set aside in warm place until warm and bubbly.
  • Combine 1 1/2 cups flour, cardamon and nutmeg in mixer bowl.
  • Combine the milk mixture with the yeast and add to the flour. Mix thoroughly.
  • Add the egg and enough of the remaining flour to make a soft dough.
  • Knead on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes, until smooth.
  • Turn into a greased bowl, cover and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  • Punch down the dough, turn it out onto a work surface and form into a 32 inch rope.
  • Shape the dough into a huge pretzel. (Form into a circle with two six inch ends curving into the center. Twist the ends together, then press and tuck under the top of the circle). Place on a greased baking sheet.
  • Cover and let rise until almost double, about 30 minutes. Brush with the egg glaze and bake in a preheated 350 deg F oven for about 30 minutes or until done. Cool on wire rack.

1 (11 ounce) bag Hershey's Hugs chocolates (or Candy Cane Hugs)
1 (16 ounce) bag M&M's
1 (16 ounce) bag pretzel rings

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Place ring pretzels on a cookie sheet. (placement doesn't matter, just leave a little bit of wiggle room between the pretzels).
  • Put Hugs inside the rings (if they don't fit, just change out pretzels until they do. It doesn't have to be perfect, but Hug should fit inside the ring, even if it's tight).
  • Place in oven for approximately 2 minutes, until Hugs are mostly melted.
  • Take out and put 1 M & M in the center of the ring.
  • Place whole pan in the freezer until chocolate is frozen.
  • Remove from pan and store.
