My kids cannot get enough of this chocolate chip cookie dough hummus. They've eaten 2 batches in 2 days & don't even care that it's made with beans!

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 can of garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed well (or homemade beans from scratch)
1/4 cup cashews (level if pieces, slightly heaped if whole)
1/4 cup + 2 Tbsp maple syrup*
2 tsp vanilla extract (homemade vanilla extract)
3 Tbsp rolled oats
1/8 - 1/4 tsp salt*
1/4 - 1/3 cup chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Combine all the ingredients except the chocolate chips in a blender or food processor. See notes for the maple syrup and salt.
  • Blend or puree the ingredients until everything is smooth and combined well, about 2 minutes.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips and serve; alternatively, store the hummus plain and add chocolate chips just before serving.

This secretly healthy chocolate hummus recipe is surprisingly delicious.

1 can black beans
3 1/2 tbsp regular or dutch cocoa powder
1/2 cup sweetener of choice
1/3 cup fat source of choice (see note)
1/4 tsp salt
2 tsp pure vanilla extract
optional chocolate chips or add-ins of choice

Steps:

  • *Feel free to sub chickpeas or white beans for the black beans. Or you can use 1 1/2 cups cooked beans instead of canned.To make the chocolate hummus, drain and rinse beans well. Combine all ingredients except add-ins in a food processor until completely smooth like brownie batter. Stir in chocolate chips if using. (A few commenters had success with a blender, but a food processor will yield a smoother texture.) Leftovers can be covered and refrigerated 4-5 days. ½ cup cooked or canned garbanzo beans (if using canned, make sure to drain and rinse)
½ cup rolled oats
½ cup almond butter (I used Justin's vanilla almond butter, which is slightly sweet)
1 Tbsp brown sugar
1 Tbsp honey
½ tsp vanilla extract
2 Tbsp almond milk, other milk or water
½ cup mini chocolate chips (or chopped dark chocolate)

Steps:

  • Place garbanzo beans and nut butter in a food processor and blend until beans have broken up.
  • Add the oats, sugar, honey, vanilla and almond milk and blend until smooth. Mixture should be soft and creamy like hummus. If it's not, add another 1-2 Tbsp milk or water if needed.
  • Remove to a bowl and stir in chocolate chips.
  • Serve with sliced fruit, berries, crackers, Annie's Bunnies, etc.

2 tablespoons maple syrup, or to taste
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons almond milk, or more as needed

Steps:

  • Place chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in the microwave until melted, 1 to 3 minutes.
  • Combine melted chocolate chips, garbanzo beans, cocoa powder, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and salt in the bowl of a food processor. Add almond milk 1 tablespoon at a time while blending to desired smoothness.
