20 g unsalted butter
50 g shelled unsalted walnut halves
4 large scoops of vanilla ice cream
4 long shots of espresso

Steps:

  • Melt the chocolate and butter with a pinch of sea salt in a heatproof bowl over a pan of gently simmering water, then remove.
  • Reserving 4 perfect walnut halves for decoration, slice or crumble up the rest.
  • Roll your ice cream into nice round scoops and divide between four teacups.
  • Scatter over the sliced or crumbled walnuts, pour a shot of hot espresso into each cup, stick a walnut proudly on top, then drizzle over the melted chocolate.

Whipped cream
1 DeLallo Almond Biscotti cookie

Steps:

  • To make the espresso shot, mix the instant espresso powder with the hot water and stir until dissolved.
  • Scoop ice cream into a small glass, and pour the hot espresso shot over the ice cream. Top with whipped cream.
  • Serve with a biscotti cookie, whole or crumbled on top.

  • Gently warm the milk in a small saucepan over medium heat. When small bubbles begin to form around the edges, whisk in the chocolate chips, cocoa powder and salt; whisk until smooth.
  • Scoop small scoops of ice cream into small tea cups or espresso cups. Ladle some of the hot chocolate over the ice cream and let the kids top with candy canes or gingersnaps if desired.

  • 1. First, chop 1 and ½ Oreos. And add in a glass.
  • 2. Then add in one scoop of ice cream. Today I am using vanilla, but chocolate and coffee flavors are great for affogato as well.
  • 3. Then pour over a shot of freshly brewed espresso. Instead of espresso, you can add 3 tablespoons of strong coffee. And for children, how about (3 tablespoons of) unsweetened hot cocoa drink? And today I am decorating with a mini Oreo.

Affogato with Vanilla Bean Roasted White Chocolate Ice Cream is a deceptively simple dessert you can make at home. Traditionally, affogato is made with vanilla ice cream and espresso, but we gave it a boost. The espresso melts the ice cream just a bit, & the combination of flavors is irresistible.

8 ounces chopped white chocolate (at least 30% cocoa butter)
Pinch of fine sea salt
2 cups chilled heavy cream
14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
2 vanilla beans, halved lengthwise
Flaky sea salt
Espresso, for serving (wait until your ice cream is ready before preparing)

Steps:

  • Pre-heat the oven to 250 degrees. Place the chocolate on a baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes. Stir the chocolate, making sure to scrape it all off of the pan to evenly incorporate. Repeat every 10 minutes until the chocolate is a medium golden brown. This takes between 30 and 50 minutes. Stir in a pinch fine sea salt and set aside.
  • Place the heavy cream and sweetened condensed milk in a mixer bowl. Scrape the seeds from the vanilla beans into the bowl. Using the whisk attachment, whip the mixture until stiff peaks form.
  • Pour half of the ice cream into a large bowl or pan. Smooth with an angled spatula and drizzle with 2 tablespoons of the white chocolate. Repeat with remaining ice cream and 2 more tablespoons of white chocolate. Use a thin knife to swirl the chocolate through. Top with the flaky sea salt and freeze until it has solidified completely
  • To serve, place 2 - 3 scoops of ice cream into bowls, mugs, or drinking glasses. Top with hot espresso and serve immediately.
