Provided by Rasa Malaysia

Categories     Chinese Recipes

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 8

1/2 lb. (0.2 kg) ground pork, chicken or turkey
1/4 lb. (0.1 kg) shrimp, chopped into small pieces
1/2 teaspoon soy sauce or fish sauce
1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
3 dashes ground white pepper
1 pack store-bought wonton wrappers
water, for sealing
vegetable oil, for deep frying

Steps:

  • In a bowl, mix the ground pork, shrimp, soy sauce, sesame oil and white pepper together. Stir to combine well to form a sticky filling.
  • To wrap the wontons, lay a piece of the wonton wrapper on your palm and add 1/2 tablespoon of the filling in the middle of the wrapper. (Use 1 teaspoon filling if you are a beginner.) Dip your index finger into the sealing water and trace it on the outer edges of the wonton wrapper.
  • You can wrap the wontons three ways. To make a triangle, just fold it up to form a triangle. Pinch the edges to seal tight. To make them into the pretty shape (far left in the above picture), just pull the two corners of the triangle down so one overlaps the other, pinch and seal with water. To make them into Hong Kong style wonton (far right in the above picture), please watch my video at the top of this post.
  • Heat up some oil for deep-frying. Once the oil is fully heated, deep fry the wontons until golden brown. Drain the excess oil with paper towels. Serve hot with Chinese sweet and sour sauce or Thai sweet chili sauce.

CHOCOLATE BANANA FRIED WONTONS WITH GRAND MARNIER® CARAMEL SAUCE

Chocolate Banana Fried Wontons with Grand Marnier® Caramel Sauce image

I tried banana wontons at a Chinese restaurant and liked them, so i thought i'd make up a recipe at home when I was making an Asian-themed dinner. My boyfriend said they were better than the restaurant's! They're great with ice cream. Substitute any kind of liqueur you want for the Grand Marnier® - be creative! many different fruit flavors seem to go well with this dessert.

Provided by chikalin

Categories     Desserts     Fruit Dessert Recipes     Banana Dessert Recipes

Time 45m

Yield 15

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 very ripe bananas
⅓ cup miniature semi-sweet chocolate chips
¼ teaspoon ground cloves
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
½ (14 ounce) package wonton wrappers
oil for frying
½ cup butter
½ cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon brandy-based orange liqueur (such as Grand Marnier®)
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
2 tablespoons miniature semi-sweet chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Place the bananas, 1/3 cup chocolate chips, clove, cinnamon, and vanilla into a mixing bowl, and mash until evenly blended. Alternatively, chop the mixture in a food processor until the chocolate chips have been reduced in size. This will help prevent the chips from poking through the wonton skins as you handle them. It will also change the texture of the filling - you will not have pockets of melted chocolate in the wontons.
  • To make the wontons: Separate and place the wonton wrappers onto your work surface. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of the banana filling onto the center of each wrapper. Use your finger or a pastry brush to lightly moisten the edges of the wonton wrappers with water. Fold one corner of the wrapper over the filling onto the opposite corner to form a triangle. Press the edges together to seal. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
  • Prepare the sauce by combining the butter, brown sugar, orange liqueur, and corn syrup in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, and cook until the sugar has dissolved and the sauce is smooth, about 4 minutes. Set aside to cool slightly.
  • Fry the wontons in the hot oil a few at a time until golden brown, about 4 minutes. Turn the wontons over halfway through cooking so they brown evenly. Remove, and drain on a paper towel-lined plate. Serve warm with the caramel sauce. Sprinkle with the remaining 2 tablespoons chocolate chips to garnish.

BAKED BANANA WONTONS WITH COCONUT CARAMEL SAUCE

Baked Banana Wontons with Coconut Caramel Sauce image

These crispy baked banana wontons are perfect by themselves, but they're even better when served with ice cream and coconut caramel sauce!

Provided by Oh My Veggies

Categories     Appetizer     Dessert     Snack

Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 medium banana (mashed with a fork)
1/8 tsp ground cinnamon
16 wonton wrappers (see note)
1 tsp coconut oil
1/3 cup coconut milk (not light-you need the full-fat kind)
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
pinch of salt
1/4 cup white sugar (organic for vegan-friendly)
2 tbsp water

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Combine cinnamon and banana in a small bowl. Place a heaping teaspoon of banana filling in the center of each wonton wrapper. Brush edges of wrapper with a small amount of water, fold into a triangle, and press edges together to seal.
  • Brush both sides of each finished wonton with coconut oil (or spray both sides with oil or cooking spray). Place wontons on a baking sheet.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes or until corners are browned and crispy.
  • Whisk together coconut milk, vanilla, and salt in a small bowl. Set aside.
  • Combine sugar and water in a small heavy-duty saucepan over medium-high heat. Do not stir! Allow mixture to come to a boil. Once it begins to boil, watch it like a hawk. Eventually the mixture will start to smell like caramel and turn a golden color, then light brown. This will take about 6 minutes. When you see that it's started to turn brown, slowly pour in coconut milk mixture, whisking constantly and quickly. If the sugar hardens around the whisk, don't worry; it will melt. Just keep whisking! Continue to heat over medium-high until mixture has thickened and is a light caramel color, about 5 minutes more.
  • Drizzle over wontons and ice cream.

BANANAS WONTON

Bananas Wonton image

I was invited to a fondue party and wanted to bring something different. I had remembered seeing something about banana wontons, but did not remember the specifics, so I decided on something simple, as I knew the oil fondue pot would also be used for meat and veggies. I love how the banana becomes almost custardy in consistency. They were a hit with both the adults and the kids at the party, some of whom popped the fried wontons into the chocolate fondue pot. Yield depends on the exact size of your bananas, of course.

Provided by duonyte

Categories     Dessert

Time 30m

Yield 24 wontons

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 large ripe bananas, peeled
6 ounces wonton wrappers, about 24
1 tablespoon granulated sugar or 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
oil (for frying)
powdered sugar (optional)

Steps:

  • Slice the banana into slices about 1/2 inch thick. You want to have the wonton wrapper surround it completely, and if it's too thick a slice, it won't.
  • Mix the sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  • Have a small bowl of water ready.
  • Place the wonton wrapper on your work surface.
  • Dip the banana into the cinnamon sugar and place in the center of the wrapper.
  • Fold one corner over the banana slice. Moisten the next corner and fold it over the first corner, pressing gently. Repeat until all four corners are folded over.
  • Repeat with remaining bananas and wontons. You might need more cinnamon sugar, depending on how generous you are, I used just a bit per slice.
  • Heat oil in a saucepan or wok until medium hot, around 350 deg.
  • Drop in a few of the wontons. They should cook in under a minute, and you might need to help it turn over onto the other side, once the first side is golden.
  • Remove with a skimmer and drain on paper towels.
  • If you are not further dipping these into a chocolate fondue, then you might want to sift a little powdered sugar over these.
  • Note: lots of variations are possible - a dab of Nutella under the banana slice, some coconut flakes, a dash of nutmeg or cardamon in the sugar.

CHINESE BANANA WONTONS

Chinese Banana Wontons image

This delicious dessert recipe is made with cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar and walnuts for a wonderfully sweet flavor. Be sure to top your creation with a sprinkling of powdered sugar. You can also use warm nutella as a dipping sauce. From mamaguru.

Provided by LINDA BAILEY

Categories     Nuts

Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 banana, diced
2 Tbsp chopped walnuts
1 Tbsp brown sugar
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp fresh nutmeg
tiny pinch of salt
12 wonton wrappers
frying oil (i use grapeseed, but canola is another good choice.)
warmed nutella for dipping

Steps:

  • 1. Mix together the banana, nuts, spices and dash of salt. Place wonton wrappers out to make an assembly line. Get a pastry brush with a small dish of water ready. You may also sprinkle some cornstarch on a plate so the prepared wontons won't stick before they are fried.
  • 2. Place one tablespoon of the banana mixture on the center of each wonton. Don't be tempted to overfill, you will just create a frustrating mess.Use your pastry brush to place water on the sides of the wrappers. Fold them over into triangles and pinch to secure them.
  • 3. Place them onto the cornstarched plate until ready to fry. If not frying right away, cover with plastic wrap so wontons don't dry out. Pour about a 1/4 inch of oil in a large skillet and heat until the oil is shimmering over a medium high flame.
  • 4. Place the wontons in the pan in batches. Turning when golden(about 1 1/2 minutes on each side). When done, place them on a cooling rack so excess oil can drip off. You can dust with powdered sugar just before serving. A favorite dipping sauce is warmed nutella.

  • In a large bowl, add the meat, ginger, garlic, green onions, soy sauce, oyster sauce, curry powder and kale and mix well to combine. To make the egg wash, in a small bowl, add the water and egg and whisk with a fork.
  • To assemble the wontons, place a wonton wrapper flat in the palm of your hand. If frying, add 1 teaspoon of mixture to the center of the wrapper. If boiling, add 1 tablespoon of the mixture. Dip a finger in the egg wash, and paint all 4 edges with the wash. Fold the wonton in half, corner to opposite corner to make a triangle. Seal tightly all around. Make sure there are no air pockets or holes in the wonton. Fold the longer two triangle points together and seal to make the wonton shape.
  • Place folded wonton on a clean, dry plate or baking sheet and cover with plastic wrap to avoid drying out. When wontons are all folded, you can store or freeze.
  • To fry wontons, add 1 to 1 1/2 inches of cooking oil to a wok or pot. Heat the oil until it reaches 375F. Add a few wontons to the oil to fry, turning occasionally until they are golden brown. Remove them to a draining rack placed over a baking sheet so they can drain excess oil.
