This is the best chili recipe! A big pot of ground beef chili loaded with beef and beans is the perfect game day food!

2 pounds lean ground beef
1 onion (diced)
1 jalapeno (seeded and finely diced)
4 cloves garlic (minced)
2 ½ tablespoons chili powder (divided (or to taste))
1 teaspoon cumin
1 green bell pepper (seeded and diced)
14 ½ ounces crushed tomatoes (canned)
19 ounces kidney beans (canned, drained & rinsed)
14 ½ ounces diced tomatoes (with juice)
1 ½ cups beef broth
1 cup beer
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional)
salt and pepper (to taste)

Steps:

  • Combine ground beef and 1 ½ tablespoons chili powder.
  • In a large pot, brown ground beef, onion, jalapeno, and garlic. Drain any fat.
  • Add in remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered 45-60 minutes or until chili has reached desired thickness.
  • Top with cheddar cheese, green onions, cilantro or other favorite toppings.

2 pounds lean ground beef
1 (46 fluid ounce) can tomato juice
1 (29 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 (15 ounce) can pinto beans, drained and rinsed
1 ½ cups chopped onion
¼ cup chopped green bell pepper
⅛ teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
½ teaspoon white sugar
½ teaspoon dried oregano
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1 ½ teaspoons ground cumin
¼ cup chili powder

Steps:

  • Place ground beef in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium-high heat until evenly brown. Drain, and crumble.
  • In a large pot over high heat combine the ground beef, tomato juice, tomato sauce, kidney beans, pinto beans, onions, bell pepper, cayenne pepper, sugar, oregano, ground black pepper, salt, cumin and chili powder. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Simmer for 1 1/2 hours. (Note: If using a slow cooker, set on low, add ingredients, and cook for 8 to 10 hours.)

I had a recipe for Chili in my Star Wars cookbook (Crazy Cantina Chili) that looked good, but had no meat! I used it as an inspiration for the recipe below.

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 lb ground turkey or 1 lb ground beef
1/2 lb sirloin, cut into cubes
1 (15 1/2 ounce) can black beans, drained
1 onion, diced
1/4 green bell pepper, diced
1/2 chili pepper, diced
2 tablespoons chili powder
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 (1 1/4 ounce) package chili seasoning mix (I used Ortega)
1 (28 ounce) can tomatoes with juice, crushed
salt and pepper
shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
sour cream (optional)

Steps:

  • Cook and drain the meat (ground meat and sirloin all in one pan).
  • Add the package of chili seasoning and half of the tomatoes. Mix well and let simmer.
  • In a separate sauce pan, heat the oil, then add the onion, bell pepper and the chili pepper. Cook until tender (about 5-6 minutes).
  • Add the chili powder and cayenne pepper and stir. Then add the remaining tomato and stir again.
  • Add the meat mixture and the black beans. Stir, heat through and keep on low heat until ready to serve.
  • Add salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve with white rice or chips (our favorite chips are the "Food Should Taste Good " Multigrain chips!) and top with shredded cheddar and/or sour cream if you like!
