This was my g.mothers recipe. As a child I always looked forward to her special cookies. She is now in a nursing home n' couldn't tell you how to make them.. but I feel very blessed to share them w/ everyone.

Number Of Ingredients 12

3/4 c shortening
1 c sugar
2 eggs
2 Tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 1/4 c all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 c pecans, in pieces (small)
1 c maraschino cherries (red)
1/2 c coconut, shredded

Steps:

  • 1. mix first 5 ing. together
  • 2. mix the next 4 together
  • 3. mix steps 1 n' 2 together
  • 4. mix in remaining ing. ( make sure each cherry is cut into 4's )
  • 5. drop by the tsp. onto lightly greased cookie sheet 2inches apart
  • 6. bake @ 375 for 10-12 minutes
  • 7. MAKE SURE YOUR COOKIES ARE COMPLETELY COOLED BEFORE PUTTING THEM AWAY..THEY WILL MOLD IF NOT COOLED COMP.

¾ cup shortening
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 ¼ cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup dates, pitted and chopped
⅓ cup maraschino cherries, chopped
2 ½ cups crushed cornflakes cereal
10 maraschino cherries, quartered

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease baking sheets.
  • Cream the shortening with the sugar. Blend in the eggs, milk and vanilla.
  • Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture and mix well. Stir in the chopped pecans, chopped dates and 1/3 cup maraschino cherries.
  • Shape teaspoonful sized chunks of dough into balls. Roll each ball in the crushed corn flakes. Place balls on the prepared baking sheets and top each cookie with 1/4 maraschino cherry.
  • Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 10 to 12 minutes. Let cool completely before storing in airtight containers.

1 cup sugar
3/4 cup shortening
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped pecans or 1 cup walnuts
1 cup chopped dates
1/3 cup chopped maraschino cherry, well drained
1 1/2 cups coarsely crushed corn flakes cereal
15 maraschino cherries, quartered,drained

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 375*.
  • Grease cookie sheets.
  • In large bowl, combine sugar, shortening, milk, vanilla and eggs; beat well.
  • Stir in flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, pecans, dates and 1/3 cup chopped cherries; mix well.
  • Cover dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for easier handling (about 1/2 hour).
  • Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls into cereal; thoroughly coat.
  • Form into balls; place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheets.
  • Lightly press maraschino cherry piece into top of each ball.
  • Bake at 375* for 10 to 15 minutes or until light golden brown.
  • Yield: 5 dozen cookies.

This is a recipe of my Grandma Robinson's, that she typed on a postcard when she lived in Monee, Illinois. Robin texted it to me 10-18-20.
