TUSCAN CHEDDAR & SPINACH BURGERS



Tuscan Cheddar & Spinach Burgers image

This recipe won a recent Cabot Cheddar recipe contenst for National Cheese Day. It was voted "Most Mouth Watering."

Provided by Cabot Creamery

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 pound fresh spinach 2 pounds lean ground beef ½ cup dry breadcrumbs 2 ounces Cabot Hand-Rubbed Tuscan Cheddar
grated (about ½ cup) plus slices for top ⅛ teaspoon kosher salt ⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper 1 clove garlic
minced 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

Steps:

  • PUT spinach in large bowl and cover with plate or plastic wrap; microwave for several minutes or just until wilted. (Or steam in saucepan.) Let cool, then chop. COMBINE spinach with remaining ingredients. Shape into 8 burgers. GRILL to desired degree of doneness, then top with sliced cheese and cover until melted. SERVE on buns if desired.

1 envelope lipton recipe secrets garlic mushroom soup mix or 1 envelope onion soup mix (just as great)
2 lbs ground beef
1 (10 ounce) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed dry
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese or 1 cup cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • In a large bowl combine everything and shape into 8 patties.
  • Grill or broil.
  • Serve on buns with all your favorite hamburger things.

1 1/2 pounds ground beef chuck
Four 1/2-inch cubes pepper jack cheese (about 1 ounce total)
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1/2 tablespoon vegetable oil
4 slices Cheddar cheese (about 2 ounces)
4 hamburger buns
Ketchup, mustard and/or mayonnaise, for spreading (optional)
Lettuce leaves, sliced tomato and/or sliced red onion, for topping
Pickles, for serving (optional)

Steps:

  • Divide the beef into 4 equal portions. Press a cube of pepper jack into the center of each and shape the meat around the cheese; form into patties, about 4 inches wide and 3/4 inch thick. Season the patties with salt and pepper.
  • Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook until browned on the bottom, about 4 minutes. Flip the patties and top each with a slice of Cheddar; cook 4 to 5 more minutes.
  • Meanwhile, toast the hamburger buns and spread with ketchup, mustard and/or mayonnaise. Fill with the burgers and top with lettuce, tomato and/or red onion. Serve with pickles.

1 (10 ounce) package frozen spinach, thawed
1 (1 1/4 ounce) envelope onion soup mix
2 lbs ground beef
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 dash salt and pepper

Steps:

  • In skillet, combine spinach and soup mix. Cook until onions are tender, then drain.
  • In a bowl, combine all ingredients. (It's easiest to use your hands.)
  • Form four to eight patties, and cook 5 minutes on each side.

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine all ingredients. Pour into a greased 3-qt. slow cooker. Cover and cook on high for 1 hour. Reduce heat to low; cook 4-5 hours longer or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

1 tablespoon finely chopped onion
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 teaspoon prepared mustard
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/2 pound lean ground beef (90% lean)
1/4 cup finely shredded cheddar cheese
2 hamburger buns, split
Optional: Lettuce leaves and tomato slices

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine the first 5 ingredients. Crumble beef over mixture and mix well. Shape into 4 thin patties. Sprinkle cheese over 2 patties; top with remaining patties and press edges firmly to seal. , Grill burgers, covered, over medium heat 5-6 minutes on each side or until a thermometer reads 160°. Serve on buns, with lettuce and tomato if desired.
