CHEESY GNOCCHI BOLOGNESE WITH MOZZARELLA RECIPE
Simple homemade Bolognese made with gnocchi and layered with melted fresh mozzarella cheese.

- Preheat oven to 400 °F.
- Bring oil and butter to medium heat in a large oven safe skillet or pan. Once hot, add minced garlic and chopped onion. Cook for 1 minute. Stir in celery and carrots, simmering for 2 minutes until softened. Add ground beef/sausage and cook until browned, about 5 minutes. Use the tip of a spatula to break up the beef into small chunks. Season all over with salt and pepper.
- Add crushed tomatoes, wine, chopped basil, and oregano. Stir and let simmer until sauce thickens, about 25-30 minutes.
- Stir in milk and turn off the burner. Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the gnocchi and boil until they float to the top, about 3-4 minutes. Strain and stir into the bolognese sauce.
- Evenly layer the mozzarella slices on top of the gnocchi bolognese and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until cheese has fully melted. Serve immediately garnished with more chopped basil.

- Boil one 17.5-ounce package potato gnocchi as the label directs. Reserve 1/4 cup water; drain. Simmer 1 cup heavy cream, 1 minced garlic clove, 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt, a few grinds of pepper and a pinch of nutmeg in an ovenproof skillet, 5 to 8 minutes. Stir in the gnocchi and thin with the cooking water. Top with 1/2 cup shredded gruyère. Broil until golden, 3 to 4 minutes. Top with chopped chives.
