Cheesesteak-Stuffed Peppers Recipe by Tasty image

Here's what you need: flank steak, olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, pepper, salt, worcestershire sauce, unsalted butter, large white onions, green bell peppers, red bell peppers, provolone cheese, fresh parsley

Provided by Julie Klink

Categories     Dinner

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 lb flank steak
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon paprika
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon pepper, divided
2 teaspoons salt, divided
2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
3 large white onions, sliced
3 green bell peppers, sliced
6 red bell peppers
15 slices provolone cheese
2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 400˚F (200˚C).
  • Cut the flank steak against the grain into ⅛-inch (3-mm) thick slices.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, heat the olive oil, until shimmering. Add the steak, paprika, garlic powder, ½ teaspoon of pepper, 1 teaspoon of salt, and the Worcestershire sauce.
  • Mix to coat the meat with the spices and cook until the meat is cooked through, about 3 minutes. Transfer the meat a bowl, leaving the juices in the pan. Cover and set aside until ready to use.
  • Add the butter to the pan with the meat juices. Add the onions and cook until tender and shiny, about 10 minutes. Add the green bell peppers and the remaining ½ teaspoon of pepper and teaspoon of salt, and cook until the onions and peppers are caramelized, about 10 minutes.
  • Cut the top off of a red bell pepper. Cut around the seed pod, then pull it out of the pepper. Remove any remaining seeds. Repeat with the rest of the peppers.
  • Cut 9 of the provolone slices in half.
  • Place the peppers in a 9x13-inch (23x33-cm) baking dish, cut side up. Scoop a bit of steak filling into each pepper, followed by the peppers and onions, then 3 half slices of provolone. Repeat with the rest of the steak, then the rest of the peppers and onions. Place a whole slice of provolone on top of each pepper.
  • Bake for 30 minutes, until the skin of the peppers is shriveling, and the cheese is golden.
  • Top with parsley.
  • Enjoy!

CHEESESTEAK STUFFED PEPPERS RECIPE

Cheesesteak Stuffed Peppers Recipe image

These cheesesteak stuffed peppers are easy to prepare and gluten-free. Caramelized onions add flavor to a quick, simple comfort food.

Provided by Diana Rattray

Categories     Entree     Lunch     Dinner

Time 1h

Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 9

5 large bell peppers, green, red, or combination of colors (divided)
2 tablespoons butter
1 to 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 large onions (peeled, quartered, and thinly sliced)
6 to 8 ounces sliced mushrooms (optional)
1 pound shaved steak
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, or to taste
salt and pepper to taste
1 cup shredded cheddar jack, pepper jack, or other cheese (or more, if you like)

Steps:

  • Gather ingredients.
  • Cut four of the peppers in half lengthwise. Remove the seeds and ribs. Set aside.
  • Remove the seeds and ribs from the fifth pepper, and chop it coarsely. Set aside.
  • In a large skillet or saute pan, melt the butter with 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the sliced onions and cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until browned - about 15 minutes.
  • Add the chopped peppers and mushrooms, if using. Continue cooking until mushrooms are golden and the peppers are tender. Remove to a plate, and set aside.
  • If necessary, add another tablespoon of oil to the pan, and cook the shaved steak, stirring, until evenly browned.
  • Add the onion and pepper mixture back to the pan. Season the mixture with salt and pepper and the Worcestershire sauce.
  • Heat the oven to 400 F. Line a 9 x 13 x 2-inch baking pan with foil, or spray with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Fill a large saucepan, Dutch oven, or deep saute pan with enough salted water to cover the peppers (don't add them yet). Bring the water to a boil, and then add the pepper halves. Cover and simmer for about 4 minutes, or until just tender but not too soft.
  • Carefully drain the peppers and arrange them -- cut side up -- in the prepared baking dish.
  • Fill each pepper with the steak and onion mixture. Top each filled bell pepper with a generous amount of shredded cheese.
  • Bake for about 10 to 12 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the filling is hot. For a cheesier topping, add more cheese just before the peppers are done baking.

  • Preheat oven to broil with rack about 6 inches from heat. Cut bell peppers in half lengthwise; remove and discard seeds and membranes. Toss together halved bell peppers, 1 tablespoon of the oil, and 1/2 teaspoon of the salt in a 13- x 9-inch broiler-safe baking dish. Arrange bell peppers cut side down (they can overlap slightly). Broil in preheated oven until bell peppers are blackened in spots and starting to soften, 5 to 8 minutes. Remove from oven. Flip bell peppers over, and return to oven. Broil until tender-crisp, 6 to 8 minutes. Remove from oven; set aside. Turn oven off.
  • Heat 2 tablespoons of the oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium. Add onions, 1 teaspoon of the salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of the black pepper; cook, stirring occasionally, until onions are translucent and starting to brown, about 20 minutes. Reduce heat to medium-low; cook, stirring occasionally and keeping onions in an even layer, until very tender and brown throughout, about 20 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in vinegar. Transfer to a plate; cover to keep warm. Do not wipe skillet clean.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of the oil to skillet; heat over high. Sprinkle steak evenly with remaining 1 teaspoon each salt and black pepper. Add steak to skillet; cook until desired degree of doneness, about 3 minutes per side for medium rare (about 145°). Transfer to a cutting board; let rest 10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, preheat oven to broil with rack about 6 inches from heat. Toss together breadcrumbs, parsley, and remaining 1 tablespoon oil in a small bowl.
