Provided by Anne Clark

Categories     Main Course

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 Loaf of French Bread
1 pound Ground beef
1/2 cup Onion, diced
1 5-oz can Evaporated milk
1 Egg, beaten
1/2 cup Oats, uncooked, quick or regular
1 tablespoon Yellow mustard
1 tablespoon Steak sauce (such as A-1)
1 teaspoon Salt
1/2 teaspoon Pepper
3 cups Cheddar cheese, shredded (2 cups for beef mixture, 1 cup for topping)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350F. Slice the french bread in half lengthwise. Press down the inside of each half with your fingers, (or remove some of the bread) creating an indention to hold the meat mixture. Place each half onto a baking sheet.
  • Brown and crumble the ground beef with the onion until the beef is done, remove from heat, and drain off the fat. Mix in the evaporated milk, egg, oats, mustard, steak sauce, salt, pepper, and 2 cups cheddar cheese.
  • Stuff equally into each half, top with remaining 1 cup cheese, and bake for about 20 minutes. Midway through cooking, check to see if the edges of the bread are browning too quickly. If so, loosely cover the loaves with foil and continue baking.
  • After baking, slice into hand-held size serving pieces.

GARBAGE BREAD

Garbage Bread image

Garbage Bread is like a bacon cheeseburger Stromboli! Perfect for game day, or a weeknight meal....AND totally adaptable!

Provided by Cookies & Cups

Number Of Ingredients 10

1/2 pound chopped bacon
1 cup chopped onion
1 pound lean ground beef
1 tablespoon steak seasoning (I used McCormick)
12 ounces Velveeta, cubed
1 (13.8 ounce) thin crust pizza dough (I used Pillsbury)
1 1/2 cups grated cheddar jack cheese
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons ketchup
salt & pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425°. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  • In a large skillet over medium-low heat cook bacon until it's crisp. Remove the bacon from the pan and set aside. Drain most of the grease.
  • In the same skillet, heat to medium high. Add the onions and ground beef into the skillet and cook until the the onions are soft and the meat is cooked through. Drain anymore excess liquid/grease from the pan. Place the skillet back on the heat and turn the heat to low. Add bacon back into the pan and season with the steak seasoning. Add in the Velveeta and stirring continuously cook until the cheese is melted. Remove the pan from the heat.
  • Roll the pizza dough out onto the prepared baking sheet. The dough should be approximately a 15×10 rectangle. Spread the meat mixture evenly on top, leaving an inch at the edges to allow for spreading. Sprinkle the grated cheese on top of the meat. Roll up the pizza dough, starting with the long sides and pinch the crust together to seal. Bake seam side down for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown. Allow the bread to cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing.

  • In a large skillet, saute the ground beef and onion together until the ground beef's cooked through and the onion is soft. Strain the meat and onions to remove grease, then return to the skillet. Stir in the crumbled bacon and continue to cook the meat mixture for an additional minute or two.
  • Stir in the soup, sauces, and spices until evenly incorporated. Let the mixture simmer for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • While the mixture simmers, slice the top third off of bread, and pull out pieces of bread in the middle of the bottom of the loaf forming a trench to hollow out bottom half of loaf, being careful not to thin it out too much so it doesn't 'leak' when filled. Set aside the discarded bread-- it can be stored to use as stuffing, or in meatloaves and meatballs.
