CHEESY HAM DIP IN A BREAD BOWL

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350*F Slice off the top of the French bread and hollow out the center, leaving about 1/2 inch along the edges. Discard internal bread, eat it, or save for another recipe. You will not need it. In a bowl blend cream cheese and sour cream until smooth. Add cheese, green onions, ham, green chiles, jalapenos and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well. Spoon this mixture into hollowed out bread bowl. Place top back on bread bowl and wrap in foil. Place bread bowl on a cookie sheet and bake for 1 hour. Remove from oven, open from foil (careful it will be hot!) and remove top. Place back in oven and broil for a minute or two. Watch this closely as you do not want it to burn, just crisp the bread up a bit. Remove from oven, place on a serving platter with crackers and dive in!
CHEESE HAM AND OLIVE BREAD
This is a quick bread, leavened with baking powder, not yeast, giving it a dense, moist crumb. You can use olive tapenade instead of diced ham if you prefer. Adapted from a recipe at Brown Eyed Baker (which she adapted from Dorie Greenspan's _Around My French Table_). http://bit.ly/a9clqz

Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Grease an 8.5-x-4.5-inch loaf pan.
- Whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt together in a medium bowl.
- In a second bowl, lightly beat the eggs, then whisk in the milk, olive oil, and ham (or tapenade). Pour the liquid ingredients over the flour mixture and stir gently, just until everything is moistened. Switch to a rubber spatula and fold in the cheese and olives; DO NOT OVERMIX. Scrape the batter into the pan.
- Bake the loaf for 10 minutes at 400°F Reduce the oven temperature to 375 F and continue to bake the loaf for another 35 minutes, until it's puffed and golden, and a thin knife inserted into the center comes out clean. Transfer the pan to a cooling rack and let it rest for 5 minutes, then turn it out. Turn the loaf right side up and let cool completely on the rack.

HAM & WHITE CHEDDAR DIP BAKED IN A BREAD BOWL
Just a nice twist on ham and cheese. Simple to throw together and baked right in a pumpernickel bread bowl. Now, you could use rye, whole wheat, but the pumpernickel just tastes the best to me. Just a nice change for a party dip.

Steps:
- Dip -- First make sure your cream cheese is room temperature Then, in a medium bowl, add the cheddar cheese, cream cheese, sour cream, ham, chilies (green and jalapeno), scallions, onion, garlic, worcestershire, salt and pepper. Mix well and set to the side.
- Bread -- Cut off a thin slice from the top of the loaf and scoop out the bread from the inside. Cut down as far as you can go with your knife without cutting through the outside of the loaf. Then use a spoon to get the rest of the bread out. That makes for great dipping.
- Fill hollowed bread loaf with the dip; cover with reserved top slice of bread loaf and wrap the loaf in foil. In a 350 degree oven, bake 1 hour. Serve with reserved bread, crackers, bread sticks, vegetables, broccoli, even par boiled fingerlings are great with this. Endless things to dip.
- A fun easy different dip which is just that little bit unique. And the best part it is kid and adult friendly and you can make it ahead. Just don't fill the bread bowl until you are ready to bake it. If I go to someones house, I usually bake it for about 45 and then just finish it in the oven there.
