A friend gave me this recipe to use at a bridal shower brunch, and the sweet chewy bacon strips were a big hit. Lining the pan with foil before baking helps cut down on cleanup. -Jane Paschke, University Park, Florida

1/2 cup packed brown sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 pound bacon strips

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°. Line a 15x10x1-in. pan with foil., In a shallow bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon. Cut bacon strips crosswise in half; dip in sugar mixture to coat. Twist 2 or 3 times, then place in prepared pan. Bake until browned and crisp, 15-20 minutes. Freeze option: Freeze cooled bacon twists in freezer containers, separating layers with waxed paper. If desired, reheat in a microwave oven or on a foil-lined baking sheet in a preheated 350° oven before serving.

1/2 cup maple syrup
1/2 cup brown sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Place bacon on a rack on a lined cookie sheet. I line mine with foil for easy clean up.
  • In a small bowl mix the maple syrup and brown sugar.
  • Brush the mixture on top of the bacon on the rack.
  • Bake for 25-40 minutes until the bacon is crisp.
  • Let the bacon cool on the wire rack for 10 minutes than transfer to a plate to cool completely.
  • Then enjoy!

1 pound thick-cut bacon
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp. cracked black pepper
1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
1/2 Tbsp. crushed red pepper flakes

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line a baking sheet pan with a silicone liner, parchment paper or foil. Lay the uncooked bacon sliced onto the pan. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, cracked black pepper, cayenne pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes. Stir to combine.
  • Sprinkle the sugar mixture over the bacon slices, fully coating all of the slices. Using your hands, gently pat the sugar down onto the slices of bacon.
  • Bake for 30-40 minutes or until brown and crispy. Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes. Check at 30 minutes and if it isn't as crisp as you'd like, put it back in for the full 40.Carefully transfer the bacon from the baking sheet pan to a cooling rack and let cool for another 10 minutes.
  • Preheat air fryer to 400°F. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, pepper, cayenne pepper, and red pepper flakes. Mix well.
  • Sprinkle mixture all over bacon and pat down.
  • Spray air fryer with olive oil, then add bacon and fry for 8 minutes, checking halfway through at 4 minutes to see if any of the bacon needs any rearranging to crisp up.
  • Serve and enjoy!

1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup chopped pecans
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
1/2 pound thick-sliced applewood-smoked bacon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375. Line baking sheet with aluminum foil and place wire rack on top.
  • Combine brown sugar and pecans in food processor and pulse until pecans are ground. Add salt, black pepper, and cayenne. Pulse a few times.
  • Add maple syrup and pulse until mixed and paste forms.
  • Cut bacon slices in half crosswise and place pieces on the rack without touching.
  • Get a cup of hot water for dipping the spoon.
  • With the back of a spoon or your fingers, spread pecan mixture on each piece of bacon. Cover each piece but don't spread too thickly. Dip spoon in water if difficult to spread.
  • Bake 30-40 minutes, until topping is very brown but not burnt. Bacon must be very brown to get crisp as it cools.
  • While hot, remove bacon to plate lined with paper towels and allow to cool.
  • Serve at room temperature.

With a small spoon, evenly spread the pecan mixture on top of each piece of bacon, using all of the mixture. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the topping is very browned but not burnt. If it's underbaked, the bacon won't crisp as it cools.
  • While it's hot, transfer the bacon to a plate lined with paper towels and set aside to cool. Serve at room temperature. (The caramelized bacon can be made early in the day and stored at room temperature.)
